Canadian soldier killed, 4 wounded in Afghanistan

A Canadian soldier died Monday and four were wounded when their armoured vehicle struck an improvised explosive device north of Kandahar city.
The fallen soldier has been identified as Trooper Karine Blais. She was with the 2nd Battalion of the Royal 22nd Regiment Battle Group based at Canadian Forces Base Valcartier, near Quebec City.
Blais was 21 years old and began her tour of duty just a few weeks ago.
"All members of Task Force Kandahar are thinking of the family and friends of our fallen comrades during this sad time," the military said in a press release. "We will not forget their sacrifice as we continue to bring security and hope to the people of Kandahar Province."
The injured soldiers were airlifted to a military hospital at Kandahar airfield. They have not been identified.
The armoured personnel carrier was travelling through the Shah Wali Kowt District, when the IED detonated at about 5 p.m.local time.
Canada has lost 117 military personnel in Afghanistan since the mission began in 2002. Of that number, the majority have died from roadside bomb blasts.

Tragic.

The people we're fighting in Afghanistan are the most reactionary and oppressive force in the world.
That soldier put herself between freedom and barbarism and for that all free people must be grateful for the ultimate sacrifice she has made.

It's the a shame the Afgan people aren't using their new found democracy to create progressive legislation but at least they have an accountable government. To vaguely quote Tony Blair; whilst Afganistans future is uncertain, at least it now has a future.

Yes..those ****ing idiots shoot at/bomb the soldiers trying to stop the terrorists, and somehow this is the fault of "the man".
 
Democracy is awesome until the people start voting for things that you don't like.
 
Man, that sucks. It always sucks when somebody dies over there. Not everybody that dies over there we can relate to either. Most of them aren't westerners and many of those aren't bad guys.

And you obviously never see all the posts and the times where I criticize CptStern for just wildly throwing out that everybody he disagrees with is a redneck.

But redneck and raghead are not on equal footing anyway, in my opinion.

I severely doubt that when you call them a raghead, you're only setting out to denigrate their religion. People who say that sort of thing just hone in on it as being a physical characteristic to identity them as a people and use it as a disparaging remark. Another term used by most of the people who say "raghead", is "sand nig***".

Thats why I would never say that to one it's something you don't say just for the sake of saying or because your mad at one person that happens to be Sikh obviously.
This about inferior medieval type culture that Muslims have. You keep on trying to imply that I somehow have beef with everybody with darker toned skin from Asia lol.

Well, then I would suggest you find another term, because by using that term you're just lumping yourself in with the sea of other people who use that term as a racist remark, as well as "sand nig***" as I mentioned above.

Seriously, I don't mean to be a dick, and it's sad she died, but does this not happen everyday? I am totally confused why this story is above the rest.
 
Because she's Canadian, and we matter. :D

You ****ers only just lost a soldier or what?, you doing any fighting?, I thought Canada was different from those other token western forces who sit in their bases because they and their country are so cowardly they cant even do a bit of fighting when they send forces somewhere.

He's not going to be banned permanently though, is he? I mean, it's wrong what he did, and I was the one who called him out on it, but I don't think it should constitute a permanent ban.

if there was no Iraqi war i bet afganistan would be a success, since there would more troops to stabilize it...plus more funds for peacekeeping operations.
