Canadian was wrongly captured...and tortured

read your own post you nubcake, then think for a second.

Okay, I live in the US. But that is not the point, at all. I merely meant this as an example of why I am losing faith in the governmental system--so far removed from the people which doesn't think before it acts, or thinks wrongly.

What country I am in does not matter. It's is a mere demonstration of the flaws of government. I am losing faith in my government, and government in general, especially in the hands of the most incompetent people. No further addition was necessary. Now, let us not stoop to name-calling, because you don't know what your talking about. So, anyway, back on topic.

I'm losing more faith in my government, and those around it.

Not the only 'hick up' outthere...
In the old days you where innocent untill proven guilty. Now it's the other way arround.

How come there aren't any protest marches in the States? Every day untill a serious independent investigation is started.
Is the media so confusing? Or maybe people don't give a dam anymore
Maybe all that matters is having a bigger car than your neighbour.
If that's what keeps people up at night?...If so then the New World Order has allready won. :(

Arar filed a lawsuit in U.S. federal court, but the case was dismissed by a judge citing "national security" issues.
The poor guy was tortured and kept in a small cell for 10 months and then can't even get compensation?
Arar also is seeking compensation from the Canadian government.
...
He has testified before a European Parliament committee in Brussels.
I hope he really stirs up some trouble - this incident deserves to be better known to the world

What does that have to do with anything?

You said you were losing faith in your government, but you didn't say what country you are from.

Plus, I would say both countries are at falt, but moreso the INDIVUALS in the Canadian government who apparently made all this shit up.

Meh, I tend to disagree with lawsuits in general. They are usually a result of an indivuals desire for vengence, when the government is supposed to provide justice..too entirely different concepts.

I understand his plight, and I most definitely support an investigation...but..I already stated my views on lawsuits. Or is it lawsuites? I can never remember =P

while I agree that the canadian government should bear the brunt of the blame for his arrest/detainment/torture/cover up the US still has extraordinary rendition that made this all possible. The US still refuses to acknowledge that they've done anything wrong or that the practice of rendition is fundamentally an abuse of power and contrary to declaration of human rights which they are signatory to

that said, Arar hasnt gone unnoticed in canada ..I think public outcry probably helped this inquiry go through in the first place ...heads should roll specifically for the cover up and leaking of false information to the media after arar returned to canada in an attempt to discredit him

well in Arar's case it's about holding them accountable for an illegal act ...ironically enough it's through the Torture Victims Protection Act which was made into law by George HW Bush

But if the government fails to provide justice (like this case so far) lawsuits are really you're only legal option. Think about it whatever his motives for filing the lawsuit those responsible deserve to be held accountable and the government isn't doing it.
That's why the courts decision to deny him the lawsuit sucks so much. We all know that democracy isn't a perfect solution but at least you can have your say - even if you don't succeed - you can go to court and say "This is wrong and shouldn't have happened". He has been denied this and that irritates me.

Canadians need to be locked up anyways. Whether they be of Middle Eastern descent or not!
