cannont connect to steam account

when i got home last night i noticed that there was deathmatch finally availible for hl2.. eager to try it, even though im on 56k, i started up my internet and clicked my steam icon. for two hours last night the steam program stayed on one thing....

i went to bed and loaded it up 15 minutes ago, and its still on the same thing...

ERRR wtf. i do want to play deathmatch.

I don't seem to be able to connect either. Maybe there's just a s**t load of traffic at the moment. Everyone is going to be downloading this update/Death match stuff. I hope the update sorts the game out but it's a big if ................Fingers crossed ........... And toes ................ Damn it! I'll even cross my testicles for luck!!!

"Connecting" is when it's patching HL2, I think.

On 512k broadband I had a 5 to 10 minute wait on "connecting" and then a 10 minute wait when I selected to download the deathmatch. Both times, my router's program's internet activity was maxed out.

On a 56k modem, those waits would be 8 times as long.

If you wave some way of looking at internet activity, have a look when it says "connecting". I think you'll find it's very active.
