Cannot Display this Video Mode for Portal 2

hey everyone so I have a Gefroce GT 430 video card, which "can you run it" says fits requirements to run portal 2, but whenever I play the game I can hear the game running and hear the main menu loading but my screen goes all black and I get a "cannot display this video mode". The steam powered forums people suggested it might be a monitor screen driver issue and they sent me to nividias web-site and I downloaded what the sight suggested but still I got the same problem.

Any ideas on whats going on? Is it a resolution problem or should I do something under steam properties part of portal 2?

btw my current resolution is 1280x1024 with 60 Hz

Also I did some checking and whenever I increase the resolution I get the same error "cannot display this video mode".....I did some searching and my monitor driver's date is 6/6/2001 and version 5.1.2001.0. Do I need to get a new monitor or just update the driver??

It's probably your monitor, not the graphics card. Same thing happened to me. Right click on the game icon in your library, go to "Properties", and click "Launch Settings". Type in "-window" and it will load in windowed mode. Should load from there.

First off, update your dirvers, thats almost certainly the problem. If that and what the guy above me said doesn't work, then you might be missing some game files. Go to your library, right click the game, properties, local game files, and hit verify integrity of game cache. That might solve the problem.
