Hey guys. I'm trying to format a new hard drive I added to my computer, so I can have a drive on the PC with NTFS format. Need those larger than 4 gig files right now.

But when I try to format it, I get an error along the lines of it failing to format. Nothing I do seems to work. Please help me out!

The drive is a Maxtor 6L080J4

wow im having the same problem kindof but it says "windows cannot format the drive because it contains files in use by windows"

Well, what's the error it gives you? Have you partitioned already, etc?

bryanf445, I'd say your error is pretty self-explanatory... Are you trying to format your Windows drive while you're using it?

Well there is one way to format...
Just dun do this toooo much....(I have....though it was a ME so not sure if it's this fault or ME's fault).
note- I take no responsibility for anything that happens, except if it works flawlessly.
If you can get into dos mode before the computer starts up then just type in fdisk
hit y
then you have to go to delete partion and it should list all your hard drives. You can delete it, and it will auto format it right there. Then you will have to get into dos mode again before windows starts back up, and re add the partion in and then run Windows restore disc.

This will clear absolutly everything and anything so you only have DOS which I believe is saved by flash memory or something...

I do not recommend this way, but.... it may work...... I would let asus or something post here first before....even thinking of using it....
