Hi,

All was well with Steam before WinXP re-installation.

But I had to wipe the whole System (C:\) drive and reinstall Windows XP Pro.

Now content on the drive where I had Steam was not touched, but after re-installation the drive where I have Steam has changed from I:\ to L:\.

Now Steam will not let me play HL2. Even though I try and point it to the drive L:\ and the folder where Steam resides, it will not let me change I:\ to L:\.

Next, I tried to restore the Steam backup I have. Here again ather are only 4 folders, but Steam asked me to insert the fifth folder. So there is a problem.

Please advise me how I can recover my game.

Many thanks

Palmer

I had the same problem after re-installing/formating my C: drive. I used to have my other hard drive set to Q and then it changed to D. Well, nothing really bad happened except for the fact that steam would never connect. I fixed that by deleting the "clientregisitry.blob" file and all has been fine ever since.

I hope that helps.

I have to translate this from a danish windows so some of the words might not be entirely coorect...

You can manually change the letters of the drives by right clicking on start - settings/options- adjust -advanced - show administrations tools in All programs - OK ||| then in there some where you can change the letters. :) hope this helps, works exellent for me everytime i reinstall.
