Cannot start cs:source in offline mode

I have a pc upstairs that has not got an available internet connection, to install cs:s i took my pc downstairs and connected it to the internet. I played a round downstairs whilst connected to the internet, it worked fine. When i took the pc upstairs to play, steam couldnt find an internet connection, which was expected, but when i went to "start in offline mode" it said that there could be something wrong with the server. Can anybody help?

yes because you need the internet on to play on servers you can only run hl2 offline because it doesnt use a connection

*providing all games are at 100% content (in the games menu right click a game and hit properties, only games "ready to play" are available in offline mode)

start steam and connect online, update as needed.

exit steam. (do not "log out")

disconnect the nic card and start steam again.

probably best to use "remember my password" when you log in online. this way when you exit and log in offline, it won't try to verify your password online.
