Can't believe I need a walkthrough! Plz help!

well if you don't please help cause i've been playing all night long and i can't let this stupid mansion halt me from finishing the game with no break (k, I'm kidding;p then again i'm not feeling sleepy yet so u never know).
Anyway I'm in this Malkavian what's-his-name guy's mansion on Hollywood hills, and I think I didn't do something that is supposed to be a riddle in that room with the 3 candles on the wall. Thought i did what the note is saying and i guess this opened the door that leads to the red-lighted room, and i got 1 xp, but is that all that's supposed to happen? Cause i went to that room, then upstairs, through the roof, and downstairs to the green-lighted room, and the smaller room with the mirrors near there, but then it leads back to the red room so now i don't know where to go cause there 3 locked doors around.
In this room with the 3 candles there is this ladder that leads to nowhere-maybe I am missing something there.

If anyone has got a clue gimme some help cause i'm sure it's something stupid that i didn't see but I already spent 45mins wandering in the %$@ place looking for something

Hehe, it's a puzzle.

Each candle has two parts: the stick and the flame, both can light up separately. Pulling each candle turns on either the flame or the stick of the other two candles. The point is to find out the pattern and make all 3 light up, stick and flame.

This is one of the easier puzzles compared to the later games.

I'm stuck in the nosferatu sewers right now with the maze that begins with me jumping through the ceiling.

It's not enough to get the flames burning; the candle stalks have to light up too. You have get all six lights to light up, 2 on each candle. Once you do, a cutscene should occur and the door to the red room should be unlocked.

yah but I've seen this cutscene and I've been in this red room and the green one too, after the roof...
so I guess it's something else that I am missing.
On another forum someone told me about some "wheels" in the fireplace in this room with the two mirrors.
Only thing I found there was that tape recorder, but nothing in the fireplace... I'm gonna check right now
