Okay, so I've been having this problem for quite a long time, and reformatting my computer is not an option in fixing this.

One day a month or so ago, I was unable to boot up steam after a patch I think it was. I would get the message and the progress bar stating 'updating steam platform' I'd get to 100% and then it would go back to 29% up to 100%, repeating itself. I'd try to cancel and redo it, reboot my computer and do it. Delete the blob file and do it, uninstall and reinstall steam and do it, same problem. On the rare occasion i did get n, i couldnt get more than 10kb/s when downloading HL2, HL2DM, etc. again, and the download would stop every 10 seconds getting a retry connection error. Then I would exit steam and get the updating steam platform problem again.

Does anyone know what the problem could be or have this problem? Any help would be appreciated

Thanks in advance.

delete the clien reg bob thingy

it should be in

C:\Program Files\Steam

ClientRegistry.blob is the file name delete this file while Steam is OFF,then turn it once this file is deleted.I hope that helps.
