Hey guys, looooong time HL fan/veteran. Finally got around to buying HL:2, and when i tried installing......it said I couldnt connect to STEAM. I thought maybe a new login account would help, but i acnt figureout how to do that even. All i can do is attempt to install the game, then be told i cant connect to STEAM. Any idea whats wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again guys.

Does the program give you any kind of error message? It's a bit hazy, but I think you first have to make a Steam account, and then install HL2 (When installing HL2 from a disc, this will be a part of the process). You should already have a Steam account with HL2 on it if this is the case.

Thats the thing. First time i tried it, it allowed to make a name and password, then tried to connect, but couldnt. now it just keeps on trying with said name and password every time i try to install. Do you know how i could try to make a new account?

I am not all that familiar with computers, if its a port problem or firewall problem i am sorta lost:x
Also, i have tried the connection tests on steam's support site, they tell me the same thing: I cant seem to connect to steam and play what is one of the best videogames EVER MADE.

What is your ISP? Some ISPs block required ports for Steam, and the only way to get around that is:
A) Call them and request they manually allow your ports
B) Get a new ISP.

Well, have a look at their website and see if you can find any information about any ports they block. If not, e-mail and/or call Tech Support.

EDIT: Try deleting your Clientregistry.blob :
Exit Steam. Delete the clientregistry.blob in the main Steam folder and the platform.gcf file in the Steamapps folder. But make a backup of them first by copying them in another folder! Now restart Steam.

I tried finding the steam folder, only things i got were a few read-me files from exploring the disc. only thing i can do with steam is attempt to log in

is there any way i can manually change the ports myself? BTW, my ISP is actually Qwest, Quest. Spelled it wrong
