I can get a very steady 60fps on some maps. But no matter what I do, turn down gfx options, stare at a wall, O/C my video card, whatever, I cannot get above 60fps exactly. Because its such a clean number and such a solid block, it makes me curious as to why this is.

Heres my specs:

AMD 2800+
ATi 9800 AIW Pro
1gig Dual Chan 3200 DDR
1024x768 @ 200hz

Any ideas?

Are we talking about HL2? Why is it necessary to get more than 60fps??? That is a great fps. If you get a steady 60 fps even in intense moments, I would say you are doing pretter good...

HL2 and CSS.

Why? Clearly its not nessisary. If it was, then I would have asked this a long time ago. And no, it does not stay at 60 in intense moments.

Still if my hardware is capable of more FPS, I would like to see what it looks like.

Vsync

VSYNC capps your fps at your mointers refresh rate
check your mointer settings and turn vsync off

I get like 80-120 fps with my 9700 pro @ (300/620 Mhz) and i have 100 Hz.

I would suggest that you downloaded the latest drivers for your graphic card. If that dosnt help try changing the sort of driver (like DNA, Catalyst etc....). Might help. Im using Catalyst so u can try it.

Apart from that you will get a better fps if you lower the texture, model, shaders etc.... Lower one of them a bit. I lowered Shadows coz that isnt really that important and I got from 70-100 to 80-120. You probably know what I mean. Try it and tell me if u still dont get a good fps.

Cheers
Mike

Well, honestly guys... I get about 40-50 frames per second, and it is fine. 60 frames *shrug* Anyone play Quake when it first came out? Anyway, it also maybe the fact that phsyics calculations are making it hard on the PC.
