can't get past the DirectX check??

Um, i got a question, have been searching thru this forum, but haven't found it yet :
I got a TI4200 128 Mb videocard, and have installed directX 9.0c
I have a 1.2 Ghz pc with 648 mb sdram, but the game won't go further with installing then the DirectX message in the beginning ( "directX on this computer is equal or higher then direct X 9.0 )
then it stays on this message ( how many times i click on "next" no dice, it stays on the same message..)

is my pc too slow, or is my card outdated, or do i need directX8 with the patches?

please help me...

Sounds like your install is corupted.

well uninstalled steam, and reinstalled, same thing when installing the game... could it be my TI4200 has to run under directX 8? ( tho i don't see the sense really..)

yes. If you have the latest Nvidia drivers, you may experience some probelms using DX9 with HL2. I've gone back to the 61.76 drivers, and have had no problems since.

Got the same problem, but I formatted my hard drive yesterday and before that it worked perfectly. But after the format I doens't anymore. I want to install it and when I click "next" it doens't move an inch... I don't think it's my Nvidia driver or directx because they were installed before the formatting.
