Cant install Half Life 2!! Help!!!

Error 1335: The cabinet file 'hl2.cab' is corrupt and cannot be used.

Always get stuck on the first disc!!!
Ive tried the following
-re-installing Win XP after formatting
-changing cd-rom from DMA to pio under controllers.
-using another cd-rom drive
-updating all drivers.
-clean booting xp
-running steam and got all updates
-no scratches on installation cd.
-windows installer on automatic in services.

Noooo!!

Now that that problem is fixed, another one has arisen!!!

When HL2 is started up it goes to the valve logo and then crashes.

I think you might have bad ram, or a bad PSU.

I had faulty RAM and replaced it under warranty thanks.
 
im having that same problem with some programs. im getting that application memory thing too..cant solve the problem...is it the RAM? cuz i upgraded some RAM. The old RAM used to run at 133mhz and the new one is 333mhz.
 
The ram might be bad or the PSU might be bad aswell.
