When you start up your computer, enter the BIOS setup by clicking del.

Once in the BIOS menu find the menu that contains "AGP Aperature Size."

If you have it set to something like 32 (Like me then this is the culprit.)

The rule of thumb is to have it set to double the amount of MB of your Video card. I.E. Set it to 512 if your video card is 256MB. My video card is 256 but my motherboard only allowed it to be set to max of 256 so I left it there and now no problems whatsoever. GL and tell me if it helped you.

bump - I think people need to read and try this if they have tried everything else mentioned earlier and their game still does not run.

Yikes, that's some pretty bad advice to give. Where did you learn that the AGP Aperture has to be double the card ram? If anything it should go the other way.. also, it doesn't work for me, because I'm already on 256mb (I'm going to turn that down to 128mb again even though I have a 128mb Radeon 9800 Pro). It's pretty board specific, but the rule of thumb I've heard, is that 64mb should probably be the minimum if you can get away with it.. 128mb is the sweet spot, and if you have persistent problems or less memory on your graphics card (probably < 128mb) try 256mb...

Nothing is set in stone though.

If it worked for you, that's great though. :D

thats incorrect agp setting should be at about 32mb or 64mb . you get performance loss at 256mb even with 256mb card.

there is no 512mb agp setting and i got a 256mb card 9800xt

the agp aperture works like a ram disk (page file). so you dont need double if u got a 128mb or 256mb card. should be set to 32mb , 64mb

like you dont need 2gb ram (page file) disk if you got 1gb ram

you possible read that it should be double from sometime ago as memory on cards where small back then 8mb or 16mb cards should be set at 32mb

Maybe it should be less but it worked for me so that's why I am here posting this for other people to try. Before this I've done everything ever mentioned on every forum that I've been to. I've even tried removing my 128 stick of RAM. Anyways I hope this helped someone else.

have a look at this for agp aperture size its some time ago but it show u how settings can change the performance

the only way of knowing which is best would be set up a test yourself as everyone specs are so different

and changing the agp aperture size and running 3dmark2001 , 3dmark2003 , 3dmark2005 if u can and check your scores for each aperture size and then what works best for performance and keep it at that also try for half life 2 as thats whats this is about
