Can't read Retail Disc #1

Hi

I bought Half Life 2 retail but when I put disc one in the drive, it gives me an error message like: Can't read drive.

Every other discs work but CD #1 seems to have a problem. I am not able to install it.

I have the same problem. I put in cd 1 and it will try to run setup.exe After a few mins. I get a error about setup and it crashes. I have tried loading it form explorer. I am going to return the first cd to get a new one.

That's what I'll be doing too. I think the problem is not my comp, If I look under CD #1 there are alot of scratches so I think they gave me a corrupted one. It's unbelievable all the problems people are getting. At least, I'm happy to know I'm not the only one with my problem.

yeah... maybe this problem was passed onto the dvd version un-noticed...

So I am not the only one who has problems with installing on the first cd. Talk about bad QA :O So nobody else has a way around it ? I can't preload and use my cd key because theres is not pre-load option anymore. I was thinking about using this as a work around but now I will have to go back and return in my hl2 for a new one. I hope the dumb sale clerk give me new box with another new cd key :E

Tell me when you get a new copy if it works. Because I wont be getting mine until tomorrow.

Had the same problem. Returned it for a new version and I can read the cd now...except, of course, that I'm having OTHER install problems now.
