Can't run in DirectX 9.0

I can upload a Dxdiag report if you wish. I'm using a GeForce 7600 GS 256MB and it has been updated to latest drivers, I use Windows Xp and the card uses DirectX 9.0, however in the game options it says "Software directX: 9.0, Hardware DirectX: 7.0". I tried force starting it in 9.0, but nothing.

I have only found one other person who had this issue and he never got answered (another forum), nothing on Steams support page either. So anyone able to help me play in 9.0?

I feel silly, I discovered a console command to force run it. It is now doing just that. Maybe this will help anyone else who has this issue.
