Can't turn on bloom in Episode 2

I was playing Half-Life 2 Episode 2 and trying to max out all the video settings to see what it looked like. Everything was working fine until I tried checking the Bloom effect box, which never stays checked. Every time I go to turn it on , I get this error in the console...


ConVarRef doesn't point to an existing ConVar
exec: couldn't exec userconfig.cfg
Host_WriteConfiguration: Wrote cfg/config.cfg


Any ideas on how to fix this?

use hdr not bloom. you need at least a dx8 supported video card to use bloom

If your using HDR then you cannot use bloom. I think it's a bug Valve have not fixed as it shouldn't let you tick that box if you have HDR enabled. Bloom is less dynamic than HDR, so in all your getting the best just with HDR.

Alright, that makes sense.
I just got a new Geforce 8600 graphics card, so I guess it's using HDR.
