I've been trying to stream some stuff to my xbox 360 from my computer, as I've done flawlessly in the past, but now I cannot. I think the problem has to do with the fact that I cannot enable media streaming. Every time I try to enable it... it acts like it's working... but still says media streaming is not turned on, and the OK button remains greyed out.

Please help! I've tried searching endlessly to find a solution to fix this.

What OS (including version , home, business, media center, etc)? And are you using media center?

I have Windows 7 Ultimate. I have Windows Media Center, but I am not using it.

I am using Windows Media Player... and it's worked in the past, but not now.

I never used it with windows media player so unfortunately I can't really help there, others might be able to. But you might want to give media center a try and use the xbox 360 as an extender. That actually not only works really well but is also very neat.

Well I tried doing that too, but Windows Media Player no longer wants to accept my extender.

Anyway here's a video of what I'm talking about.

Hmmm...on my work computer I can start that service without issues even as a limited user. Does anything show up in your event viewer under the services section?

As a matter of fact, it has.

All of them have that error. I tried reinstalling windows media player before, under Turn Windows Features On or Off... but that didn't fix it.

Researching this error now...

Service 'WMPNetworkSvc' did not start correctly because CoCreateInstance(WindowsMediaPlayer) encountered error '0x80004002'. If possible, reinstall Windows Media Player.

Didn't think to check the error log. Thanks No Limit.

What does the event say?

On edit: I just saw you added more stuff. Unfortunately I gotta take off from work and my computer at home is ****ed and I won't have it running for a while, so good luck to you. You seem to be on the right track, just pay close attention to that error log. Hopefully you get it resolved as I find media streaming to be the coolest thing about the xbox.

This is driving me ****ing insane. I've been trying everything I can think of, searching everywhere I can think of.

One thing I tried that might be a cause for this, is Internet Explorer 8.

EDIT:

**** YEAH! **** YEAH! I fixed it with the help of this thread. http://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/598484-sharing-service-wont-start/ This post in particular http://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/5...wont-start/page__p__588991384&#entry588991384

Out of all the others I checked, only this one had the proper information to fix it.

**** YES!

Sweet. Have you tried the media center extender at all? Really cool if you want to watch movies and other video files on your xbox.

I just do that without Media Center.

Xbox 360 can view movies and stuff without Media Center by using Windows Media Player to do the sharing.

Controlling playback of videos and stuff is more finicky, less fine tuned than Media Center though, since you use the controller rather than the ability to use a remote control(if you have one for xbox 360), but I still prefer it.

Ahh, I didn't know you could stream movies and videos without media center.
