I've bought a new PSU, but I can't unplug the cables of my current one! Drives are not a problem, just wiggle the connector left/right, use some force and it will come out. What I'm having a problem with is the 4-pin ATX-12V motherboard connector. I've pulled it, but don't want to apply too much force, cause it's connected to the mobo and I don't want it to crack. I assume I've got to press the little thingy on the side (that's what I was doing while pulling the connector)?

maybe try pushing them away from the plug itself (they may be catches, not push buttons) kind of like an old pentium II holder.

I think this is a case of having to pull harder tbh mate. I know the feeling, i've had to apply a fair bit of force to remove one of those before, sometimes they require quite a bit. You need to be pressing in the part of the catch that is attached to the PSU connector in order to release the catch from the motherboard side, and then persevere !!!!

Hope you manage to remove it mate.

Thx for the tips, I successfully installed the PSU

There's one strange thing though and I can't see how is this related to the PSU. After booting I see a black screen and after a few seconds the first thing I see is the Windows XP boot screen. No more post messages, displayed mobo logo, "press del to enter setup" etc. Weird...

That happened to me on a computer once.....

Just black, until windows.... then after a few boots, it returned to normal

:rolling:

Maybe you hit some DIP switches (or some such thing)on the motherboard, and you've changed what's displayed on boot. Or maybe messing with the PSU flattened the CMOS battery, and reset some bios settings.

What she said (i was going to say exactly that, honest guv)

:E

Thought about that as well. Can I do anything to restore it? A few additional seconds on boot is not a big deal but those boot logs are helpful when something goes wrong.

Hmm, I noticed that while there's this black screen after I boot and the "_" sign in the upper-left corner, the HDD makes single *click* noises every 0,5 second a few times. Maybe something's screwed with the HDD and now it takes longer to access it after boot?
