carreers in mapping?

Are there carreers in the game industry that focus aroung creating enviroments for a game? Such as the work I am doing with hammer.. stuff liek that...

If there are... Could you tell me about them.. and what sort of schooling is needed?

Yes there are careers out there for mappers. Not as many for source engine in particular... You'd just have to follow the happenings at game development companies really.

As far as I know there aren't any school programs dedicated to mapping itself, but classes in programming, modeling, animation, 2d art, etc. would certainly be helpful. However, experience means alot to these companies, and they often hire mod designers. For example, many people from the natural selection team have gone on to find careers in the industry. It takes alot of hard work, but if you have the talent and dedication it's possible.
