Catalyst 3.9's Released

Ati must be joking, do this damage monitors or does this actually fix that issue?

doesn't seem like they did anyhting in this release but fix bugs...... not worth the restart for me ;)

maybe later :D

I'm still in disbelief due to the whole monitor frying issue.. until I hear positive praises, I'm staying with 3.7

Same here. Has anyone tried the 3.9 drivers yet? If this driver was just to fix all the bugs, it would make sense that they fix the monitor thing too. Atleast, lets hope so.

You guys do know that the official 3.8 never had any monitor problems? It was the leaked drivers.

Anyway, I'm also using 3.7. I aint concerned about the monitor issue (ran both official 3.8 and leaked dell drivers), but the new 3D panel simply broke FSAA/AF settings... Most likely its been fixed (many of the bugfixes seem to be setting related), I'm just not sure its worth the effort. But I'm trying it out anyway, I love those smartshaders :)

I'm downloading them at the moment, too. I'll post on the topic later, probably on like late Friday night or Saturday sometime (I won't be home really for a long period of time until then.)

had to restart, so i installed them. so diffrences that I can tell... other than it reset my AA and AF settings :/

resetting your aa/af settings is to be expected, have you done any performance tests? (i dont peticularly care for benchmark numbers, but any real game test results would be appreciated).

wen u say harlocks? do u mean it freezes for like a split second then just carries on?

no diffrence on CoD; It still randomly harlocks on me.

i've been running CoD fine on the 3.8's....the only settings i can think fo affecting it is Fast-writes (they need to be disabled in bios and in smartgart), and cpu recover needs to be disabled, other than that all my settings are pretty normal...

Just tried the new drivers on my radeon 9200se. big increase in fps on Mohaa @ full rez. card slightly warmer tho.

ye, and your monitor will end up fizzling to.

Im completely fine with 3.7 and wont go back until I know ati wont frazzle my monitor.

Anyone know of a site that benchmarks new drivers against previous ones requarly?

i know tom's has done it a few times, but is there anywhere that keeps the benches up to date with current drivers?

No problems here. No improvements (the latest were working fine too), but they seem to work fine.

Alot of people there seem to disagree, and I see no reason why hundreds of people would make it up.

Although, it seems as though only the 9800/pro cards were effected, some reported their 9700 pros doing the same.

I'd rather just play it safe, but who here is running the 3.9 drivers with a 9800? I have a 9700, but I played it safe and stayed on the 3.7s

Edit: Looking through that thread, not as many people reported it as I remembered, maybe it was just a giant rumor.. who knows

I am running a 9800 Pro on 3.9 but I have dual monitors. :)

I have a 9800 pro on 3.9, no problems with my monitor or heat, *shrugs* guess Im lucky.

I had downloaded 3.8 for my 9800 pro but then heard all this cr*p (not sure about the swearing policies on this BB) so I went back to 3.7. Now I hear some of you kind of worried about 3.9; I have it downloaded but haven't gotten around to installing it yet.

swearing is tolerated, and the really bad cusswords are bleeped out, so let loose ;)
Welcome to the Forums.

I wouldnt worry about the drivers, if there was a problem, they would have been recalled. the 3.8s worked perfectly for me, and so do the 3.9s :) in fact the 3.9s fixed my BF1942 error.

I recommend the 3.9s

Redundant, you're not running dual monitors, are you?

I have installed 3.9 and aint seeing any problems. Havent tested it much though.

Concerning the monitor breaks once again: It seems highly exagerated. It started with one peep claiming it broke his monitor, and from there it was an AVALANCHE of discussions about it. There might be some problems, yes. Question is, how much of it is driver issue, or simply hardware failure? Its not like that is uncommon. Also, the affected amount of people are VERY (read again, VERY) small compared to the amount using Catalysts. I dont know if there is a problem. But I do know that every accusation I have seen can be denied with valid technical explanations from ATI... Dont go around thinking that the second you install 3.8 or 3.9 it will blow up your monitor. But if you dont want to use it, then dont use it, nobody will stop you :)

After all, every time you turn on your computer there is a chance it might break.

*Technically* isn't my TV considered a 2nd monitor since I export vid to it? I watch movies on it so I can lie down and watch them instead of sitting at my comp. I love my radeon :)

I guess I'll install 3.9 now :)

I've been using 3.8 and recently upgraded to 3.9's with my 9800p. I have had no problems. The 3.9's fix some issues I had with my framerates in certain games, and are welcome on my computer. I Love ATI :D
