So today I decide to burn my friend a CD, and to my horror, neither one of my CD drives shows up in My Computer. So I restart, and it says that neither my Secondary Master or Slave are detected. However, both drives will still spin CD's, though my "regular" CD drive usually won't open unless you right-click on it and click "Eject". I have no idea what's wrong, this happened all of a sudden, and not just after I restarted the computer. I mean my sister was playing the Sims only hours before, and then when I get on, I got to burn a CD and the drives are missing :\

I really have no idea what's wrong, and I'd rather fix these drives than shell out $200 for new ones that I would rather spend on games. Can anyone help me at all?

It could be bad drivers.

Try using the "revert to old drivers" feature in xp.

Righty, check your jumper settings, your IDE cables, and perhaps update the firmware.

Failing that, take the CMOS battery out for a minute and put it back in :)

(I've learned from my mistake :E )
