CD-Key problem help out please

I have been playing cs 1.6 since it was in beta with my old cd key from long ago. Now I have recently bought HL2 at the store. Had some trouble installing finally got it installed. As soon as I got it installed I click on my icon of HL2. It took me to the Register this product I already own. I entered in my cd-key exactly as it appears on my cd paper case. I then get the message...

"Please make sure Half-Life 2 is installed. Insert the Half-Life 2 disk labeled 1 into the CD drive and install it".

Funny thing is that I already have it installed. What do you guys suggest?

Sounds odd.
Try verifying your files.
Maybe some corrupted or incomplete code makes Steam think that.

Yeah, and if that does not work, try to reinstall (both steam and HL2). It seems that there is nothing wrong with your CD key, but something with the software. When steam tells you that your CD key is already in use, that's when you are in trouble.

Thank you for your replys now it got past that but now it says that I now have a duplicate CD-Key. How is this?

Any fix to this?
