CD Key Where?

Greetings,

I have just bought Half Life 2 from Virgin Megastore. Just installed it and it puts up a CD-Key registration before it will launch. I am wondering where the CD Key is located. I think Virgin Megastore are after screwing me...

All I got with the game was the DVD version and a sheet , the 'Quick Reference Guide' which tells me ' During installation you will be prompted ti create you Steam account and validate your CD Key, once this is complete you can play Half-Life 2'

Please tell me, was I meant to get another book or something, a game manual as usual? Note.... I am not looking to 'borrow' a CD-Key. I want to know if they are hiding it. they somehow forgot to include it or perhaps I just cannot see it.

There should be a white sticker inside your DVD box.
It says something like
AAAAA-BBBBB-CCCCC-DDDDD-EEEEE

You need to enter this code.

OK, I got no white sticker inside the box....??

I found a key in the registry, a 13 character key to be exact. It installed Steam and when I tried to put on HL2, it started playing Half Life Original...i.e. started on the monorail/train going through the Black Mesa facility!!!!????

I am absolutely confused.

Also, when I click on the desktop shortcut to Half-Life 2, it brings up something to do with Steam: Browse Games which says I've already registered....!!!???

Me thinks I shall not be able to contain my anger when I re-visit the store...

The key is on the back of the paper sleeve the disk was in, at least it was for me. It will be 5 sets of 5 characters for a total of 25, I doubt you got a bogus copy of the game.

CD key on the DVD version is on the jewel case. Right underneath the pictures of G-man, Gordon, and Alyx, it should say "Key ..." in a white box.

i have the UK PC DVD version and if you insert the disc correctly so gordon is standing upright the key is on a white sticker about and inch above his head

Nope nothing in there. I guess I will go back in an try to get another version. I'm going to make them open it this time just to make sure.

I went back into Virgin and they gave me another one which had the little white sticker and CD Key inside. Cheers comrades....

Heh, reminds me of the time I bought Planescape: Torment. I only got the first 2 discs of a 4 disc game. The jewel case was only a 2 CD holder. Brought it back to the shop and they were like "hmm, that's weird...here, have this other one" - 4 CD case, full game. Funny old business.
