It started 5 days ago i have no idea what this could be? When i pop in a cd to play a game and double click the icon it does nothing.

Example just purchased Prince of persia two thrones ( Sweet game BTW) It says to pop in the 3rd cd , so i do so and message pops up put in cd 3 and hit retry???? The cd is allready in the tray hmm.. I did a system restore didnt work. What is the problem? anybody!!!!;(

Try taking the CD out and rotating it 1/4. Sometimes that helps it.

Could put the CD in copy all the files over and make it into an ISO(using ISOmagic or whatever you want) then mount it with daemon tools.

I'll try the first thing

I had some bad experiances with daemon tools. i dont want to go that route. thanks.

they're CDs you can buy that have small fibers glued to the disk that clean CD/DVD-ROMs.

Man i just noticed my D: Drive icon is not located in the my computer folder . Where did it go ???

Haha! There you go. I'm sure the drive is f*cked, or disconnected, or something like that.

How can i get it back or create another icon ????

If I were you I'd turn off the power from your rig completely (and that means completely; you don't want any electricity in that machine at all), open your case, and check if all the cables are connected properly. I had something like your prob the other day and that did the trick for me. As it turned out, the plug for the motherboard wasn't properly inserted anymore. I plugged it in and presto: it worked again.

Alright guys, i'm not a computer genius and I need alot of help here.
Firstly, I went to install a game and noticed nothing loaded up so i went into my computer looking for my cd-rom drive and it wasnt there, Only C drive.
Then i went into control panel, system, device manger and noticed that only my dvd/cd rom drives had yellow exclamation marks beside them. I right clicked one, went to properties and the device status is as follows:
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"
I've rebooted and tried to update the drivers so many times ive lost count, when i try to update the drivers it says i have the latest ones.

hmmm this is what i get from the windows helper it says this
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

I did what you said twice and still not working.

Alright...open up your case and check to make sure all of the plugs are all the way in.

After that boot it up and find the key you need to hit to enter BIOS. Go into BIOS and go to the integrated peripherals section. See if you can find you CD drive in there. If not go to each slot and have it automatically search and see if it finds anything. If it does save and exit.

If it has found it and still doesn't work you might need to install it in windows. Go to control panel and then add hardware wizard and follow that through.

Tried everything you just said and still nothing I'll have to get a new cd- rom tomm i guess. It's been more than a week without playing games , i cant take it anymore. I unistall a reinstall and it still gives me that big esclimation point saying its corrupt, not working properly. Screw IT!!!

Anyways thanks for your help, and for sticking around.

Wow hold on. Don't go out and buy another cd drive because this one doesn't work. What if the cd drive isn't bad at all? Your next one won't work either.

Now did BIOS detect your CD drive? Check the hardware manager and see if the CD drive has been disabled.

Also...why is your name the spec of your computer when it is nothing fantastic and you don't know a whole lot about computer stuff? Not much anything to show off...

Yes bois detected it . Then i went to device manager and unistalled it reinstalled it and still currupt. reinstalled drivers update drivers if needed, I unplugged the cd rom then replugged it i made sure all cables were connected , took my case apart and checked all cables everything looks great. The cd's are spinning so its not broken. its simply stopped reading my cd's, i tried system restore, i went and cleaned out my registry files, I dont want to reformat cause i just did that a few months ago and i'm pretty sure that wont fix the problem.

And i'm no nerd but i know a few things about computers IMO.

Try taking another cd drive and see if that can read the CDs to make sure there isn't some process running in the background like a virus that is screwing it up or some other software problem.

Ok i just purchased a new cd rom and THIS one doesnt read either so they are not broken . There must be somthing else like viruse or sumthing cause it just happined all of the sudden. It's all plugged in correctly soo i dont know what else to do. Will a reformat fix it.

Try and think about the last thing you did before you noticed it wasn't working...

Did you install any new software or hardware?

Change anything?

Tweak any settings?

Usually when a problem arises, it's caused by something else you did recently, even if it doesn't automatically seem like the two are related...

You might want to re format in this case. It would clear all the crap up. Just backup what you don't want erased and make a seperate partition for windows(15gb should do) and the rest for installing crap on to so next time you need to re format all you lose are drivers and whatever else is on the windows partition.

The cable could be bad...you might want to swap it out with another one. A Pin could have been bent or broken off or it just won't read anymore.
