CD writer problems related to new graphics card?

Hi,

My CD writer now doesn't work (according to device manager it's an ASUS CRW-4824AH). It won't finish writing a CD and sometimes, despite there being a disc in the drive, will not see any disc in the drive. Also if it fails to write a CD, it will refuse to eject the CD until I restart my computer. The only thing that has changed is that I got a new graphics card recently (Radeon 9600XT).

I'm running XP SP2. No one is really sure what the problem is although it has been suggested that the drive has had it's day.

Replace it with another drive and see what happens. It sounds like its knackered, if you burn allot of cd's, cdr's do expire after a time, the lasers burn out or something.

it hasn't has a lot of use, only got it last February
