So i was thinking when will the next gen processors come out? I was reading some info on quad core processors but dunno.

When will the pc have a processor that compares to the cell?

Better yet when will pc games support those kinds of processors?

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

I don't think it will be long before a desktop based PC is developed that has a cell processor at it's heart... you can already get similar performance to a CELL if you get a dual-cpu dual-core (4 cores) 64-bit rig (top end AMDs).

Add a couple of 7800ultras in there in SLI and you're sorted.

For Cell to be produced for the pc, most of the computer industry would have to dump all the current research and move over. Some of the features that Cell has might be integrated into future Intel and Amd cpus, but the PC would most definately never move over to the Cell, due to cost.

Cell still processes threads in the same way an x86 based PC does, its just got 8 logic units on the chip instead of one. It would probably be possible to emulate an x86 environment on the cell (but not vise versa). The major benefits of the cell CPU are best used in a server or workstation environment, so I don't doubt that some time soon we will see specifically created machines using the cell CPU - just don't expect to see windows running on one any time soon...

Except I recall Sony saying that they wouldn't allow developers such as Apple and Microsoft access to it to enable Sony to have full control over it.

Or something similar.

Well, what i was asking was when will we see games and hardware as STRONG as the CELL on pc.

Just so you know, FLOPS is floating point operations. Floating point is one type of calculation and Integer is another. FLOPS isn't the best measure of performance. It's so theoretical rather than actual performance numbers.

You mean the Cell design in the PS3? Cell is an IBM,Toshiba and Sony project. It's more speciallized than STRONG i would say...
After all it's only going to be as good as those who program for it.

I'd recommend skimming through this article a bit. You'll get something out of the first few pages and the conclusion.

Sony had mentioned something about making Cell for the PC, but it would not work with Windows. I believe they would allow Linux and said nothing about Mac's.

Anyway thats from somewhere in my memory!

People don't allow Linux, anything that has a CPU will have linux ported to it eventually.
