Changes Resoulution - Blurry Screen on HIGH end system :(

Ok here it is: I installed it and did everything on Steam like I need to. It updated Steam and updated Half Life 2 and which point I was able to click run game which it did.

HOWEVER when this happens the game changes resolutions by itself to something really low like 800x600 and then starts up with the Value intro screen and then its a blurry screen which says 'loading...' on the bottom right. It then stays like this frozen.... What givens? My system should run this thing no problems!

System: Hp zd8000
256 ATI Mobility Radeon X600 - Driver Version: 6.14.10.6505 Date: 12/21/04 DirectX 9b
3.4Ghz P4 650 w/HT
1GB Ram, 533Mhz
100GB Drive 5400RPM
17' WSXGA+ Wide View (1680x1050)

If anyone can help that would be awesome! I have reinstallated 3 times already and everything works up to the point of Steam and it loading.

ALSO when I was installing and trying to run it I have my Norton AntiVirus auto protect off.

So what happens when you start the game?
It just sits there, being blurry? Take notice that loading the game background takes quite a long time (Defragmenting your hard drive will decrease loading times).

You can skip the game background by activating the console:
put the "-console" parameter in front of your shortcut target.
