changing HL2 sounds

Hi i have been playing hl series games for a while starting since hl1 came out. now i was thinking of modding my hl2 a bit. more like customizing. i wanted to replace the combine voices with the grunts from half life 1. so i extracted the SourceSounds.GCF from steamapps and replaced the voice files with renamed grunts. However i just learned that i cannot modify GCF files. How do i implement the new sounds i have created? is there a way of using the source mods? thanks.

btw i hope i posted this in the right section.

put 'em in your "steamapps/half-life 2/hl2/valve/sound/" folder

did you mean "steamapps\username\half-life 2\hl2" and then create a new sound folder? i looked into my directories and i cant find any "halflife2/hl2/valve". there is no valve.
