Changing the name of the mod that shows up?

I was just wondering... how does Steam get the names of third party mods that show up on the list? I'm only asking because I installed HLRally and it says "Half-Life Rally Beta 1.0 Setup", it's long wierd and annoying. Does anyone know how I could change what shows up there, for example have it say "The Specialists" rather than "The Specialists Beta2.0"?
