48 was actually the last number last season, but it dropped down to 42 this season because there's only 42 passengers left, not 48 anymore

You're wrong man. I just checked the Hurley episode (it's either 1x19, or 1x20) and hurley wins the lottery with the numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42, the mental patient recites the numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42, and the hatch has the numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42 on the side.
