:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

This image is quite possibly the most stunning image Ive ever seen. Its a deep field image from the Chandra telescope that on first glance looks like a bunch of stars. But in fact pretty much every point of light within the image is an entire galaxy each possessing billions of stars! Not only that but the entire image is of a portion of the night sky that covers less than 0.1% of the night skies total... If that doesn't give you an idea of the sheer magnitude of the universe and how small we really are then you have no appreciation for science.

Hey buddy, speak for yourself.

Another pic showing how tiny we really are:

Info

that pale blue dot in itself is insignificant next to the deep field image i posted :p

that picture is indeed amazing. here's another great video about the same picture which I watched some time ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcBV-cXVWFw

Man I love space, even though I don't understand anything about it.

edit: actually I'm not sure if this is the same image. It's taken by the Hubble telescope, but the image Matt posted was taken by Chandra. Anywway cool pics nonethelss
