Chavez gains more power

Well it's not like Chavez is going to go invading countries for extra oil supplies or anything else. He's quite well liked in his country and aslong as everyone is happy there and the US government doesn't decide to play hard ball with him I can't see why there's a problem.

I feel worried if he comes whit some whit supresive laws

he is starting to dict things like that everyone whit more that one car must hav the other confiscated, taking out people of theyr building to "ubicate" other people

so I am getting worried of what will come

and solaris will post happines

I just read the first part of the article,Will he ever let somebody else be President? It sounds like he wants to keep power until he dies 0.o

Hmmm.. yeah, I think I'll call bullshit on the whole socialism thing. Maybe I'm just a pessimist, but I'd like to think I'm being a realist about it.

Also, Chavez looks like a goober.

Ruling by decree? Holy shit. I'd really like to see how Solaris is going to justify this one.

/hugs <RJMC>

The HL2.net SWAT team will come to your rescue if teh evil Chavez wants to evict you.

Good, now a real socialist revolution can go underway!

Oh! Ah! Chavez eh so se va!

Am I the only one who wants to hurl a ****ing tomato at Solaris?

lol at Solaris.

You remind me a Prime Minister had in the 70s and the 80s, Olof Palme. He pointed very severe (and justified) criticism against The Vietnam War and Apartheid, but he closed his eyes towards any wrongdoings done by socialist countries and leaders. He has gotten almost an iconic status after his murder in 86, but I will never like a man that puts socialism before democracy.

I'll take a wait and see attitude ..he's trying to nationalize industry so these sweeping powers could be what's needed to force foreign multi-nat corporations to pack up their bags and do business elsewhere ..then again it could be a further ploy to consolidate power ..it could in time be good for venezuela ...or horribly bad

one thing I noticed is that when havez speaks to the international press he speaks all camed and easy going

when he speak to the public here he is a exact copy of castro, screaming and speaking like some kind of martyr "socialism or death!" every time

Well, when the majority of the population has been brainwashed or are lower-class, the select-few who are not either of those are free to reign, as has been the case in Venezuela.

I've been wondering what to call Chavez, other than a puppet, of course, and all I can come up with is "puta".

lol "brainwashed" ..that's rich coming from a conservative american prone to spewing rhetoric ripped from the pages of foam-at-the-mouth neo con blogs

justify any horrific occupations lately?

You do realize that this isn't the way socialism is supposed to work, right?

Dictatorship =/= Socialism

I can't do anything but laugh when i read the first USSR constitution. It's something like a free ticket to nut house /siberia/ jail if you'd stick to it.

the people is not brainwashed, they are just close minded and bit of brainwash

however you dont know how glad I feel of hearing him say he consider the USA population a brother country and that stuff, reducing the possibilityes of some kind of confinement law or something like that

I doubt Venezuela has the military prowess to destroy the USA.

Popular support is no justification for his attempt to eradicate the checks and balances in the government to gain personal power. It's a dangerous trend if history has taught us anything.

His dictatorlevel is OOVVEERR NIIIIINNNETHOOOOUSSAAANNDD!!!

It appears he now has the support of the elected legislative body after the opposition boycotted the elections. Which was stupid of them as now they're out of power.

...isn't that what happened with Mussolini? :O

This is exactly how socialism is supposed to work. Socialism is the opposite of democracy.

BE SAFE. BE WISE. Report Socialists to the nearest Public Security officer.

I guess its all for the "greater good" aye Solaris... Chavez is turning Venezuela into a second Cuba, and he's going about it pretty smart.
While everybody's eye is on the US, Iraq -> MidEast, he starts to tighten his grip.
I saw this coming a long time, it started with his cheap tricks to please the poor ("Brood en spelen" -> bread and games, introduced by Julius Caesar. Oldest trick in the book to shut people up).
Ah well, I won't be surprised if the next new law to come would be something like: "you cannot question or object the glorious revolution", now where have i heard such amazing democratic laws before... hmmm. *Kuch Cuba *kuch

Go. Away.

Besides you're thinking of "communism" which doesn't work the same way as "socialism."

Yes, I put them both in quotes because neither one has truly been put into practice. Everything that's been called "communism" or "socialism" has been a poorly disguised dictatorship. You can't force true communism or socialism upon people.

They're both the same; bad, unrealistic, and illegal to boot.

Uhm, imo socialism up to a certain point (as in many European countries) works really well and is a great system. But as i said, "up to a certain point". As with everything, when it gets fanatic and goes overboard -> it doesn't... :)

It's already begun.

CARACAS, Venezuela - The bespectacled talk show host grimaces into the television camera, raises a finger and accuses President Hugo Chavez of using ?tropical neo-fascism to trample Venezuelans? rights.?

Sweat beads up above Miguel Angel Rodriguez?s eyebrows as he berates government officials, calling them liars and challenging them to prove their accusations that he is an ?imperialist? pawn of the CIA.

Welcome to Radio Caracas Television, the channel Chavez loves to hate.
As he accelerates his push toward socialism, Chavez has decided that Venezuela?s oldest private TV station must go off the air for good when its broadcast license expires on May 28.

?Their days are numbered. Squeal, kick, whatever they do: the license of that fascist channel is gone,? Chavez said Saturday. ?RCTV?s signal will be nationalized for Venezuelans.?

Chavez says he fully respects freedom of speech, and that turning over the channel?s frequency to a ?community? station will help democratize the airwaves, providing ?communication power to those who almost never have a voice.?

Venezuela?s radio dial now includes hundreds of mostly state-financed and Chavez-friendly ?community? stations, and three state-run TV channels have been launched since Chavez took office. They feature musicians singing songs about ?El Comandante,? segments calling opposition leaders CIA agents and documentaries about Argentine-born revolutionary Ernesto ?Che? Guevara. Cuban-produced cartoons feature peasants who prevent invading soldiers from seizing a palm-dotted island.

that should be enough to make people realize this is not "for the people"

yeah right this will increase freedom of speech cuz now chavez can spread more bullshit
I support the silencing of that facist media outlet.

All the big media companies in venuzuala were run by very rich companies running smear campaigns against Chavez trying to brainwash the people.

ARGH...

screw you Danny, you really think you so much more about this Country then some one that lives there?

get a grip,jeez.

Jeez Solaris, who cares if that media outlet has smear campaigns against Chavez, its FREEDOM OF SPEECH. And more importantly, don't you think pro-Chavez channels aren't smearing their opposition?
When will you ever learn to see things from more than just 1 side.
Chavez is silencing his opposition. Now whatever you might think of that opposition, its still silencing/making less heard their right to criticize. It is Chavez who is brainwashing people.

All the big media companies in venuzuala were run by very rich companies running smear campaigns against Chavez trying to brainwash the people.

Oh shut up. "Quick, silence the detractors!" Now who's doing the brainwashing?

It's apparent you've abandoned all logic and reasoning.
I hope you realize that if there were a global socialist revolution, chances are pretty damn good that you would be killed in the ensuing anarchy.

Good for us, terrible for you.
