This should be of interest to a few people, and a good laugh for the rest of us.


DOCUMENTARY: Chavs
Channel: Sky One 30
Date: Monday 21st February 2005
Time: 21:00 to 22:00 (starting in 6 days)
Duration: 1 hour.
Journalist Julie Burchill investigates chav culture, and asks whether it is a genuine modern phenomenon, or just a term used to belittle the working classes.

Woah, now that's something I'm watching.

The town I live in is a haven for Chavs of all breeds. It's ranked number 7 on the UK stabbings table, or so I'm told.

you get a sky channel over there don't you? They should probably show it eventually. Though not if my town is on it, i don't want you seeing my town portrayed as another city of the chav :p

It used to be an ok place with the chav population kept under control, but then they banned hunting *shrugs and grumbles* :p
 
Looks like quality tv.

I hope all the chavs that don't what the rest of us think of them watch it - and see what they are for the first time!
 
I've been saying the word chavs for 10 years, only now the mainstream media using it.

I don't think I'll watch that show. I see enough chavs just walking around Edinburgh every single day of my life.
 
Chav's aren't the working class, they're the under class.

I was gonna say its surprising none have come forward and tried to defend themselves about it, but well yeah the whole too stupid/stoned/in prison for stealing off their granny to use a computer.

All this time and I still have no idea what a chav actually is. Gangster wannabe, right? We have many, many gangster wannabes around here. Most are rich white kids that like to act like they are "ghetto". It's a serious pain.

yep you could say chav's are like the poor version of your rich kid gangbanger wannabe's crossed with deliverance style rednecks. Their annoying, dangerous, thick and of no use to society, most just sponge off the state and make lots of babies who go on to be violent little creatures causing as much damage as their 14 year old parents.

There's certainly an element of middle class superiority to the whole chav-bashing trend. Sure, lower class young idiots are often an annoyance, but it's not particular clever just to take the piss out of the underpriveledged/underachieving. I think we kind of need to treat the situation a bit more seriously than just regard it as a source of humour.
On that basis, I might have watched the show, but not with Julie 'Satan's Whore' Burchill being involved.

When chav's stop acting like vermin and being a royal pain in the backside of society, people will stop treating them like that. They've only themselves to blame, if they/you don't like it, change, stop thinking its ok and a laugh to destroy and steal other people's property, beating up complete strangers just cause their infront of you in a queue or have something you want.

Until then, chav's = vermin, pests, underclass, wastes of space, spongers, prison fillers, dole dossers, layabouts, scum of the earth, argument in favor of futurama style suicide booths...

As for underachieving, well if they'd studied instead of bunked off to go sit around shop fronts drinking shandy with their "posse" and thinking their 'ard by ganging up on the old and defenceless. They might have learnt their two times tables and been able to get a job instead of taking what other people have paid for with money they've earnt after getting an education.

It's not upto the rest of the country to carry them if they've no intention of helping themselves.

By the way i don't live in the UK but this still makes me laugh my ass off, the ones we have around here are all rich though. So im guessing pér definition they would'nt be a chav?
