Last Summer I bought a

and now i see this for only $45!! what gives??

Basically should I do an upgrade?? it seems so cheap!!

Also thats a really good price imo, but should I just wait a lil bit longer for something better??

That's still pretty good but at the same time incredibly odd.
But then again, I have no clue how or why NVIDIA does their card numbering the way they do.

FYI the 9500gt is a midrange card and not particularly powerful at all, it only has 32 stream processors. Compared to the 8800GT which has 112. Based on benchmarks the 8800GT is about 3 x faster than the 9500GT.

To summarise, the number doesn't mean it's faster. The 9500gt is a newer card, but brought out to compete with the cheaper midrange market.

I also own a 8800GT and they are really cheap now, despite how good they are. Obviously there are lots of better nvidia cards out now like the 285 / 295 range.

!500s are more mainstream than !800 cards, which are the gaming versions.

The difference between the 8 and 9 series is very small.

The 9800GT is almost identical to the 8800GT, except it has a new BIOS and a additional SLI connector.(and sometimes a small overclock but you can do that yourself)

This is not the case with the other cards, but I hope you can imagine you will get far worse peformance with a 9500.

I have an 8800GT and might upgrade soon but like a lot of you, once I buy a new part I have to research them all over again...effin technology, eh?

i had a 880gt now i have a 4850. my brother had to steal my 8800gt for linux compatability.

also, the 88--gt is much better than the 9500gt, and the 9600gt. 4850 is slightly better than the 8800gt
