Would cheap hdmi cables cause frame rate issues with a pc hdmi port?

Cause I got a £1 hdmi cable from poundland (probably why I'm having frame-rate issues) there and I'm testing it out in my laptop, for the most part its fine, expect when i have my tv show files playing, then its framerate drops, any answers?

I can't say for sure but chances are the cable is fine if it works for high framerate things like games. Could be your choice of media player. I suggest Media Player Classic.

Could be the case, I'm starting to believe that the cheapest HDMI cables cause too much hassle. I bought 2 Nyko HDMI's from Walmart for $9 and they're 10 feet and they work great. you know they make 240hz, 120hz specific cables now....so maybe you should look into those. some even have ethernet capabilities but I'm not too sure what that means

If you are getting actual FPS lag it is not the cable. A cheap cable will sometimes add noise and distortions but it will not drop frames. Are you not having these issues on your laptop screen?

I'm not sure, i'll have to try it, to be sure to sure, could be due to the screen changing size when the hdmi goes in. and I'm using VLC for viewing the videos.

Edit: Ok i checked, the lag is appearing on the laptop

HDMI cables are digital so there is no such thing as a 'weak' signal or 'interference' existing.

Cables are cables are cables. Expensive cables are just capitalizing on the consumer's fear of lower performance.

If you have an ATI/AMD card and recently installed the latest catalyst, uninstall, and just pick up the latest from their site(not steam). I recently got stuttering issues in games, that did the trick.
Oh, also, if you use VLC for videos update it, some old versions are quite problematic with ATI video acceleration.

probably its the older vlc I'm using, I'm still using 0.8.9d

Thought I've never had reason to update till now

Are the shows in HD? I wouldn't be surprised if your laptop can't play HD video smoothly - even 720p. What make/model is your laptop?

All your TV shows are doing it? (try others)

And it drops frames on the laptop's built-in screen as well? (Without the external monitor plugged in)

Did you just get this laptop or is this something that just started happening?

The only occasion is which it's worth spending decent money on an hdmi cable is if it's a long run. Something cheap will likely have trouble with 1080p/24 over 15-25m, for example. Anything short and the cheapest you can get your hands on does the trick just fine.

I think it stems from the times when cables did matter and analog signals ruled the world.

Heh... he got it from poundland... poundland...

Yeah more or less, I tried the boardwalk empire making of which is a 720p file, while I use the 480p files that are 350mb in most case

Nope, fine without the hdmi lead.

Only when I plugged the hdmi cable in it,

Heh... he got it from poundland... poundland...

Mock poundland if you will, its great resource for cheap coke, laughable bad movies for a pound, poundland is epic.

We have Dollar General or Dollar Tree. The place where things that wal-mart doesn't even want end up. If you want to get questionable items for practically nothing, it's the place to be. Some of the stuff isn't bad really... just stuff that's ultra surplus or has been replaced with newer stuff. It also has cheap coke... and is usually a place you can get another type of cheap coke if you wait outside.

lol... POUNDland.

Did you know that running two displays from your laptop is going to be twice the strain? You should have a display option on your laptop to switch to the external monitor (only) when it is plugged in.
