I made this rig a few months ago because my old comp could not handle most of the new games coming out.
Since i like it so much i decided to share it with the world.

AMD ATHLON XP 3200+
2 512MB Kingston value ram
2 SATA Hitachi 80GB Hard drives (striped)
Kingwin T-424 case with 450W power supply with or without neon light.
RADEON 9800 256 (< I have) or RADEON 9800 PRO 128(< my friend has)
Creative audigy 2 zs gamer (only if you have surround sound)
ASUS A7V8X-E Deluxe mother board
Floppy drive
sony 700A DVD_RW (duel layer)

Total cost = around $1200

you can find all the parts on www.pricewatch.com
thats it.
this computer runs cs source with all graphics options maxed at 70 fps (While in a fight)
It also can run doom everything maxed with about 30 - 40 fps.

PS. yes i know the faster AMD 64 3200 is out now but i built this before i could get my hands on the 64 3200.

On what res? Even I with X800 XT PE don't get 70 fps in fights, its hard to get it without any fire fights as well on max settings

the rig wont run half life 2 maxed out setting and high res :(
but i would suggest buying a 6800 NU insted of 9800 pro
its only 50 $ but you can unlock the pipes and overclock it
it ll run half life 2 75% better then 9800 pro :D

how hard was it to unlock the other pipes? Did you have to do any hardware modding?

nope it took me
~ 1 min to go to guru3d.com ang get new riva tuner
~ 2 min to download the program
~ 1 min to install the program
~ 2 min to unlock the pipes and the vertex shader
~ 3 min for reboot and praying that the pipes work
~ 7 min to run 3dmark03
seeing the perfomance increase by 1000 point PRICELESS
(YES I GOT TO MUCH TIME ON MY HANDS)

i was running cs source at 1024 x 768 and i could have all the shaders/reflections all on high and world.

i would have gotten a more powerful rig if i had the money but im happy with this one and it runs the games great.

EDIT: i was playing LAN when i got 70fps. im not sure that makes a difference though.

Hate to break it to your Russia, but you didn't unlock the pipes. Your score would be much higher if you did unlock them. You may have unlocked a couple of the pipes, but not all 16 of them. From my understanding, doing what you did to your 6800NU was potentially dangerous.

will my 2.8 ghz, 9800 pro 128mb, 80gb Hard drive, and a gig of dual channel memory run HL2 good?

Yes, it will run HL2 at maximum settings.
