I need MS Access 2003 for my online class(s), but I really don't want to fork over $200+ dollars for something I don't plan to ever use at home again afterwards. :/

Does anyone know of a good place (or not) to buy a cheap version? At this point, I'm sick of M$ reaching in my pockets at every single opportunity and will resort to unscrupulous, piratey methods if I have too. :frown: I'm simply not going to fork over a ton of cash for a worthless piece of software for my home PC I say! I REFUSE! Anyways, where can I get a cheap version of this garbage? :|

Yeah, I know. Everyone's using 2007 now, but my school doesn't see fit to move on to 2007 M$ Office classes yet because it's just not lucrative enough. :p Oh, and Open Office's cheaper alternative won't cut it. It is an Access class after all.

Access is an odd member of the Office Suite and did not even come with the student version of Office 2003 I borrowed from my aunt. I'd rather just do my online Access work at the College if I have to and save some hassle, but the problem is that it's database software and therefore there would be little, if no reason at all, for the network admins to have something like that installed on public workstations. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place I am. :/

Screw access, learn SQL Server. You can even get SQL Server 2005 Express for free!

That said, not sure about where to get Access 2003... geez amazon doesn't even have it anymore D:

Best option, find somebody who works for the government or large company who has an employee purchase agreement with Microsoft. I can buy the entire Microsoft Office Suite (including access) for $20. Yeah, its office 2007, but is your instructor really going to know? IIRC, the primary reason instructors don't want you using new version of Access is that specific errors in Access don't exist from version to version. Thus they don't want to waste half the class warning student to watch out for different things. (oh btw, don't ask me for it, I burn my option to buy the software every 6 months, nearly got every computer I own and in my close family updated).

Second option, your school should have an agreement to allow students to purchase cheap Microsoft Software. It shouldn't run you more than $100.

Third option, use your student computer lab!

post offices dont sell Microsoft office.

i have never once seen it

Every post office, even in the US and UK sell it

Cheaper does not cover it. It is free.

I think you shouldn't judge it until you use it. A lot of people have awful stereotypical views of OpenOffice, and yet it's quite as functional as Microsoft Office. OpenOffice documents can be exported as Microsoft documents, and so if your only issue is price, go with OpenOffice. I would, if I didn't already have Office.

it has the exact same functionality as MS office and can be exported to work on office and many other file formats.

Just one person's opinion. If you go with OpenOffice, you'll find yourself in pocket by ?100 and easily get used to it. I haven't personally used the database program offered by OpenOffice, but if it is as good as the other applications in the package, then I can say it's quite worth it. Just because you're not used to it, doesn't make it wrong!

Take a step, and Trust us!

Unfortunately, the Open Office Suite will not work for this class since the online class program(s) are designed to work for 2003 Office stuff, not OpenOffice. I don't have anything against OpenOffice at all. Besides, there are too many differences in features and UI in 2003 for Open Office to work. If only my college offered courses in Open Office instead.

BTW:This was copied and pasted from a PrvMsg with MRG discussing why I can't simply just use 2007 instead. :)

This is the best repsonse I've seen yet. (I've checked on other forums too) I wonder if I know someone who has access (pun intended :)) to a cheaper corporate license?

No. Believe me when I say I've already tried. :p This is a 2003 Access course.

I think we have a misunderstanding. :p It's not prejudice against Open Office, it just doesn't work for the 2003 Office specific programs/material that come bundled with our 2003 Access books that we have to use for the class.

gotcha, you might try just purchasing is on Microsoft.com. not sure if they do it separate. ive seen them separated at frys before

Wait Wait..

I was pretty sure for a moment it was just like that in other countries. Because here, they sell the student edition software at all the post offices around my country. Ha, what was I thinking, posting something retarded like that. MSOffice in a post office in UK and US, truly hilarious. I can't stop laughing over that rubbish.

sigh..
