I felt this was way too cool to put in the lesser visited hardware forums, so it's going here. I would like you all to meet the VirtuSphere:

It's a new system designed for exactly what it looks like - VR simulation. Users can run, strafe, jump, and crouch and it will react accordingly. It's software has been designed for use with the Xbox360, PS3, and PC (though game compatibility is not mentioned). Currently it costs about $23,000, so if you want one, you may want to pass on your next PC upgrade ;)

Here's the FAQ.

This (or something exactly like it) was posted a while ago.

Looks iffy.

Shiooot, I wanna try it out! Now what'd be real awesome is if you get the same gun feel as what's in game (especially when you change weapons)

I must say that the amount goofiness radiating from the guy in the bubble is extraordinary. He reminds me of Andy Samberg.

Way over-priced, but definitely interesting! Maybe if prices dropped enough (around $2000) and it were linked to a good game, it would be a good way to get exercise, and kick ass better. If you could run faster on that, allowing you to run faster in the game, it would be sweet (some people would just hack the device, kind of ruining the experience).

Meh, it looks a bit retarded, I mean it looks like you could easily fall over if you run quicker than the ball can spin..

I still say the future of gaming lies in finding a way to with computers control our dreams and program these 'dreams'.

Nobody in their right mind would buy it, but I can see it becomes a hit in game arcades (do they exist anymore?).

Yep, invented for the Russian military.

I was hoping to see it at the military simulation conference, but they didn't come this year.

The VirtuSphere has been known for coming up on 3 years now.

How are people just finding out about it? It's been on CNET among other places, and has probably been on Digg a bunch of times (where I'm assuming you got this news from).

Either way, it's a very interesting idea, but I really want to experience it for myself before I judge.

Awesome. I've always wanted to try a VR machine that allows (relatively) free movement. Does look dorky as hell, mind you.

Supply and Demand my friend. If these were popular, they would go down to something like $200

Supply end there's the cost to build the thing. Competition would be easy. Demand is definitely limited by "where the h*** do you put that thing?"
