Okay, I can't sleep, and i'm sitting here flipping the channel, and I land on HBO.

Living Dolls: A Child Beauty Queen.

So i'm sitting here thinking... god, this is some boring shit. Why am I watching this? But then I noticed what freaking torture these kids are put through... spending much of their young lives practicing to live out their parents pointless dreams of gaining money off their kids looks. Really, what is the benefit to these kids?

Some of these kids look AWFUL. Not awful as in ugly, but awful because they don't look like kids. They are dressed up, and slabbed with enough makeup to make a streetwhore bow her head in shame.

Seriously.. There is more makeup on these little 5-10 year old girls, sometimes even younger, than I see on many female movie stars combined. Whats the deal? Why are these parents putting their children through this crap?

Most of them do it for the money anyways. Remember Jonbenet Ramsey? Yeah... Seriously, i'm saddened that most of these children who are thrust into these beauty pagaents are stripped from normal childhoods... and family involvements full of love and happiness. Most of these parents, its just about working their kids to the bone day in, day out to perfect their little routines that win the parents money.

Most of the children get beaten by thier parents when they lose.

Its sad that people fixate on such meaningless superficial waste.

Noone respects a barbie-doll girl. If you want respect, you need to be a real person, with a brain, and with support of your friends. People centred around this attempt to attain a perfect image have none of those attributes.

Thats sad Kids are ment to be Kids not people that are overly obsessed with them own self image and how other think of them..........seriously.

Yeah no kidding... these kids don't even LOOK like themselves. Like I said, more makeup than street whores.

This thread's initial post basically sums up my views on the matter.

I just do not see the point in child pageants.

For a start off, they have nothing to do with beauty. These poor little girls are virtually unrecognisable from their normal selves as they're wearing more make-up than any sensible adult woman would. Where's the beauty in that? It's all false. Second, these girls are no longer children. I'd imagine they can't play outside with their friends in case they get cut or bruised. There may be a few pageant moms with the sense to let their kids be kids every other day of the week, but they're few and far between. Okay, so far we've established that the competition has nothing to do with beauty and talent - it's how much make-up your mom has trowelled on to you and how long you've spent honing your routine when you should be out playing in the dirt and learning to ride a bike.

Let me just clarify that I don't have anything wrong with adult beauty pageants. I feel sad for them that they don't have anything better to do with their time/lives, but at least it's their own choice to enter. What pageant mom ever asked their daughter if they wanted to enter? What pageant mom would listen if they said no? What pageant victim ever fully understood enough to make an informed decision? They're too young.

People are forever complaining about the influence of unattainable perfection on little kids - surely beauty pageants are reinforcing the believe that beauty will get you wherever you want to go, and will make you happy? It won't do either if it's all you've got in life.

We can't let our lives be ruled by the chemically-imbalanced, I've already stated that with reference to men stealing dancer photos from here. But surely it's best just to avoid real-life situations where your kids are at risk? I've heard of a least two pageant winners being abducted by paedophiles - and anyone can go in, film the pageant and...well, y'know what they'll do when they get home.

I'll cut this short here, but basically my opinion is that pageants are no good for kids, no matter what prizes they get, and that no sensible, caring mother would put their child into such a dangerous, pointless activity. I seem to remember some members of dance.net were put into pageants when they were kids - I'll especially value your opinions on this one. Sorry for rambling.

I think i would ge crazy if some one tryed to mould me into there own selfimage and try to make me very thing they wish they could be........thats just not me and its not just them either, iam guessing that majority of the kids in that situtation would fell the same, its defenetly out there, you sometimes see these real life situtations in movies.

I could not bare it.

Gods... watching this thing is agonizing. In the brief period that I have been, I've already been subjected to countless images of these little girls wearing such CRAZILY fake smiles, and the camera panning to the gay looking(I don't mean that in a bad way, he just acts flamboyantly homosexual like many fashion designers) 'coach' that is sitting there with this HUGE fake smike on his face trying to keep the girl in line. And in these little girls large, soft eyes is much emotion... emotion filled with fear, and pain. This one little girl looks so freaking terrified. Her smile defies it, but her eyes tell the truth.

God. I wanna go shoot me some pageant moms!

Its the parents who are the cause.. something's wrong with their brains.

Kid's would probably be better off if they were locked in a box for a month instead

Who cares. The kids get pampered non-stop just so they can walk down a catwalk and look pretty at some shows.

Somehow I doubt many of them get physically beaten by their parents. I've seen some shows about this a while ago, and most of the money they win goes on better dresses for the child and for travelling to events.
