I need some good chill out music, mostly instrumental(celtic, enya, gladiator soundtrack stuff)

anyone know any good artists\songs?

thanks in advance...

Led Zeppelin

Some nice Frank Sinatra in the backround always gives any room a cool feel to it. Play it quiet tho.

From the technical side of the tracks, nearly any mod by a tracker called 'chuck biscuits' - especially one named 'after sunset'. They're old, they're tracked and you need a good player else they'll sound like ass but he had a knack for creating chillout music that wasn't weak so it might be worth it. If you're not into the oldschool mod sound, you'll wanna stay away though. There's not a sample in the song over 8-bit. =P

i do love old chiptunes, but thats not what i listen to when i want to relax ;)

Nothing like a little Nat King Cole, my friend. I can't think of a more soothing voice or a smoother piano.

Plenty of Nine Inch Nails I can recommend.

The Frail
La Mer
Adrift and at peace
Gone, Still
The Persistance Of Loss
A Warm Place
Leaving Hope

Get those last two, they're essential. :)

The Herbaliser.. Bonobo.. Um, Visit Venus perhaps. :)

Ambient: One Mile North, Labradford

Triphop/Acid Jazz: Definately Herbalizer, as Harij said. Perhaps some Wagon Christ.

Other random stuff: Dntel - Life Is Full of Possibilities, and Matthew Herbert - Bodily Functions

Definately get One Mile North though. It's very soft, slow, simple ambient. I find it to be incredibly relaxing and good for just laying around and chilling out to.

Post-Suicide by Tom and Andy. Lots of stuff by Tom and Andy is pretty good.

Dunno if anybodys ever heard them but Sigur Ros has really trippy songs. Theyre an Icelandic band, so they dont speak English, but the lyrics arent important in their songs its all aboutn the melody and instruments.

Sorry I didn't see this thread earlier. All you need is one man.

Amon Tobin

After just sitting here for nearly an hour chillin to this and writing some stuff up, I have to also add the EVE Online soundtrack. (No kiddin.)

For some reason I don't seem to be able to edit my posts in this forum, so I'll have to make this new comment.

I highly suggest you check out his website. Not only because it's just such a cool site (you can make your own tracks, hehe), but also because you can give a listen to his latest album to see if it's the kind of thing you're into or looking for.

Amon Tobin

I have to agree with Vesh on the eve-online soundtrack.
It's really very good..

h00dlum: Since you mentioned the gladiator soundtrack in your first post, I recommend checking out more film music. Or just classical music in general. Some Stravinsky or Bach.. very relaxing.

dude i got some killer chill out tracks for you, i'll upload them for you and post them. let me know if you want me too as i dont wanna bother uploading for nothing

This may not be quite the same but The Reindeer Section have a really cool mellow sound. They're this "supergroup" made up of loads of the big bands in Glasgow or somewhere including people like Snow Patrol.
Helps me chill out.

In a more dancey sense, I would suggest perhaps Lemon Jelly - Lost Horizons. That's a very cool little album.

pete namlook - silence 1 (especially 'garden of dreams'), dreamfish ('hymn'), air 1 (whole album)
cinematic orchestra - everything
k-pax soundtrack by edward shearmur
quake soundtrack by trent reznor
morcheeba - who can you trust
global communication - 76 14
amon tobin (for example 'easy muffin')
unkle - 'rabbit in your headlights'
craig armstrong ('weather storm' )
lamb (try 'gorecki' instrumental version or 'trans fatty acid - kruder&dorfmeister mix')
bedrock - 'beautiful strange'

...and lots more;)

Since you mentioned the Gladiator soundtrack, I'd have to recommend anything by Hans Zimmer. He's an excellent composer best known for his movie scores.

Here are just a few movies he has scored in the past: The Thin Red Line, Black Hawk Down, Pearl Harbor, Gladiator, Hannibal, Tears of the Sun, Matchstick Men, The Last Samurai, Crimson Tide, The Lion King...

im surprised, are you guys just dumb? The dude just wants some chill music, the fact that this is my favorite band has nothing to do with my decision. Pink Floyd for sure, to chill definately if you dont listen to pink floyd when you wanna chill your missing out kid. Trust me dont listen to zep which is not very calm, or nine inch nails, all very great music, but not chill music. Or umm... The Beatles My guitar gently weeps is also a very decent chill song. I mean pink floyd was meant to be like a out of reality zoning out kinda music. lists of songs, comfortably numb, shine on you crazy diamond, pigs, TIME, MONEY any song on the wall. Enjoy. Also beethoven, all 3 movements including moonlight sonata and after it, i dont know what its called, i downloaded it, and its much more than just moonlight sonata. So enjoy, pink floyd definately, i laugh at the suggestions some people made no offense

Then I will laugh at the fact that you think Money, Another Brick in the Wall/Happiest Days of Our Lives are chill out songs.

Everyone chills out to different things depending on their mood. Sometimes I put on Aenima by Tool to chill out to, and that is in no way "calm" or "relaxing".

enya's good. in that thread, moby has a similar sound sometimes.
enigma, deep forest.

other stuff, latin guitar can be relaxing. Some of the few I've liked... estopa, armik, paco de lucia.

classical guitar can be nice. segovia is the only one i can find now. that's a still-developing thing for me I'm sure there are many others.

dido is nice, too vocal-oriented for me too be real relaxing.

these are kinda random picks, looking at my playlist btw...

techno/electronica/whatever can be relaxing. okenfield is good, not too intense.
i've liked chillin to bob marley ...

GL finding something you like :)

I'm surprised too.
...with your arrogance
maybe if you'd be more openminded and listened to more different genres then you would be aware that there's more to it than just pink floyd (which is a great band imo).
did you listen to any of the songs or bands that were listed in this thread? I think you didn't, because then you'd know that for example Nine Inch Nails has MANY moody and relaxing pieces, far more than pink floyd... so try to widen your musical hirozons, it doesn't hurt a bit

You obviously haven't listened to much Led Zep or NIN. You laugh at our suggestions? I mean come on, "Since I've Been Loving You"? "Dazed And Confused"? "A Warm Place"? "Leaving Hope"? How are these not good chill-out songs? And both artists have plenty more. Hell, go listen to Nine Inch Nails' EP "Still". That might change your opinion. Hell, one song is called "Adrift and at Peace". Nine Inch Nails isn't just "Closer" or "March Of The Pigs" over and over, and Led Zep aren't just "The Immigrant Song" and "Communication Breakdown" over and over either.

yeah. good words. I used to chill out to Metallica, like some of their instrumental tracks. Was always particular to 'Orion.' Well, it's not exactly relaxing, but it's soothing... to me. I know people who would probably never like any pink floyd, but would call country music calm and relaxing for them. Is that wrong? Well, yes. Country music is lame :p ...... But also, no. If they say it's relaxing to them, then I bloody well believe it. Would make me want to poke my eardrums out with a rusty nail, but music is individual thing. everyone's tastes are different, and every band has variety in the sound and tone to their songs.

meh.

I'm gonna go with whole albums rather than specific songs:

Dead Can Dance - Anything but the first album which isn't as polished as the rest
Massive Attack - Mezzanine (an absolute must!), 100th Window
Cafe del mar - Any, though vol.7 is particularly calm and good
Heavenly Voice - This is a compilation of various groups who all have female lead singers with a great voice
Goldfrapp - Felt Mountain (such an amazing voice, and a soundscape to make you dream awake)
Sigur Ros - Anything (as someone else pointed out)
Godspeed you Black Emperor! - No it's not black metal, nor metal. Best prog band ever. Any album. They sound much better live than studio though (imho), so I'd suggest getting a live recording (they're one of the few bands actually encouraging people to bootleg their shows and copy their CDs)
Waldeck - Balance of the force (very similar to Massive Attack)
Morcheeba - Big calm and Who can you trust. Avoid the later stuff like plague.
Kruder & Dorfmeister - Anything
Slowdeck

good choice

I'd add Peace Orchestra and Tosca (Peter Kruder's and Richard Dorfmeister's side projects), Delerium, Einstuerzende Neubauten (last album, don't recall it's title...), couple songs by Tiamat (from 'a deeper kind of slumber' cd - 'kite', 'only in my tears it lasts', 'phantasma deluxe', 'mount marylin'), Royksopp, Tarwater, Winter Chill series (vol 2 is best)....
