HI
i'm am new to building computers and the one im using now is crap. i do not do any photoshop or flash stuff so i dont need any super parts or whatever. i have been using newegg to choose parts and stuff but i'm not sure which motherboard, vid card, hard drive(s), cd drive, and ram i need. can someone help me out \

thanks

What is your budget?

What do you want to do with your new PC? Do you want to run D3 and HL2 on a decent res. with high quality?

You don't need 'superparts' to do simple image editing and making flash movies.

my budget is like up to 700$. i already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, and soundcard.

i would mostly use my comp for gaming

yes, something that could run hl2 well visually

That is exactly what I was gonna sugest, except a MSI mobo. But that ASUS is a great board. Go with that stuff and you will be happy :)

Yeah I have a question I'm building a $1000 computer for my friend and we're putting an Athlon 64 300+ in it and the mobo I'm looking at is the MSI K8N Neo Platinum. I've heard good things about this motherboard and it sound like it's a popular Athlon 64 board. Is it good? Is there anything better I can get?

Yeah I noticed before that the MSI didn't have Wi-Fi, and I've seen that Asus mobo also and noticed it had the same features plus Wi-Fi. Thanx.

I would actually go with a Athlon 64 2800+ and bump that up to 1 GB of memory.

I agree with Asus. This difference between the 2800+ and 3000+ isn't all that much, but going from 512 MB of RAM to a gig can really make a difference, especially in newer games. You can always overclock the CPU to a 3000+, and maybe even higher.

yah i think ill go with a gig of ram

lol
my friend has 4 gigs of ram

o yeah

does the ati card in terminator's suggestions get me the hl2 ticket thingy?

and also what about the box to put all the shize in

i have a monster box for an older computer

do you think that would work?

its just a really big case that i would take from my old computerr

wouldn't like 4 fans be like super loud?

and also would it be 700$ with the gig of ram or is this with the 512 mgs?

o yeah what about a dvd/cd drive

and psu

and what is this that this guy says in his how to build a comp sticky thread

CPU- If you buy a OEM CPU, it will not come with a HSF. A heatsink and fan is NEEDED. Retail CPU's include an HSF that will be fine. They also have a thermal pad ont he bottom so you will not need to purchase thermal compound

i dont understand all of the "OEM's" and "HSF's"

is this cpu thing included in your list?

?
cpu is your processor

psu is your power supply

OEM is basically any product that is sold without a box, manual and accessories

HSF is a heatsink for the processor (cooling fan)

thanks for the help

i'm a bit of a dumbass

how a bout a soundcard

or do you even neeed one?

that mother board comes iwth decent onboard sound. but you could pick up a brand name card if you wanted to.

yah im over it

so that cd drive that you suggest is a dvd drive too?
