A group tracking religious rights activities says the Christian game Left Behind is wall-to-wall spyware. Game play and ad viewing will be tracked once the title is installed on PCs. The software can't be deleted or removed. Moreover, it apparently locates where in the world your computer is and reports how many times a day you use it. Don't think "spyware," think "computer angels."

a piece of software inserted directly into Left Behind: Eternal Forces, software that cannot be blocked or removed -- and without your knowledge or permission, it tracks you. This in-game ad software records how often you play the video game, at what time of day and for how long, what game play areas you visit (like Times Square, Soho, Chinatown, or the United Nations Building), which video ads and product placements you view, where your computer is located geographically, and who you are demographically. It monitors your choices and behavior, collates data, and reports back in real-time to... whom?

gives a whole new meaning to "jesus is watching you"

Oh emm jee, that Double Fusion stuff is sinister as hell. Game-integrated adware? And apparently one of their guys had a presentation with Microsoft on the possibility of incorporating this into Xbox 360 games - horrible.

They probably didn't have the resources and looked elsewhere for help... and found adware companies willing to help them out... for a price.

It would be rediculous to just equate religion to spyware.

ROFL, this is hilarious, its like Stern's worst nightmare - doing a little innocent gaming, while Christians monitor his every move!

Very troubling though....

I'm actually thinking of buying it ...can you imagine the people on the other side monitoring me as I play?

"dear lord he's trying to sodomise that preacher again, that's not in the MANUAL!!"

How much else does it monitor?

You could really scare them.

"I'm pretty sure jesus didnt intend for that to end up there, lord have mercy"

"lord help me carry this cross I must bear, I realise that even gamers are people too, but the things this Stern is doing with farm animals and faithful christians ..surely lord in your infinite wisdom you'll smite him so that his evil foulness will not further affect us ..brother Horatio hasnt been the same since and has taken to speaking in tongues"

well the difference is, valve's is integrated into steam, which when you buy it you know you are submitting yourself to. But I do think valve should at least tell us they are monitoring us, and give us an option to turn it off.

The difference is that you can uninstall Steam. Also, does that game have a user agreement like Steam does? If it explains in the user agreement it's probably perfectly legal.

At least Valve is tracking statistics semi-legitimately, the kind that can help them make better games. Showing how many times players died on certain difficulties on certain maps, playtime (total and per-level), last level played, etc... all help Valve determine what makes a game good.

Left Behind tracks similar things, but it also logs where you live, what population demographic you belong to, and sends this info off to an as-yet unspecified recipient. Creepy, to say the least.

Pretty funny stuff! It's odd that they're so "coarse" about it. I might not even call it 'spyware', as that infers that it's somewhat clandestine. This should be called 'confessionware' perhaps.

It's ok, the spyware is just sending your info to God. He needs to know these things.

God uses tracking devices? What did he do with them romans?

"I intend to take legal action if I can."

Oh, Jack, that's your answer to everything.

I intend to be the Supreme Overlord of the Universe if I can.
