Civ Revolution demo released on XBox Live \ PSN later today

I heard good things

I'm waiting for the PSN version since i don't have Gold :(

I hate the way they went with Civ 4+. Too cartoony and lame. It's never been totally serious (advisors in Civ II), but I hate the new style. Sid Meier's doing it with all his games.

Initially I was pretty pissed about the way they went with Civ 4's look and feel. After playing it though I quickly forgot about all of my gripes in those areas and enjoyed the game. Since my PC died, and I have absolutely no intention whatsoever to ever build a new one, I've been missing my Civ. Couple my dead PC and my ever dwindling free time and this Civ game looks like the perfect answer for me. I'll definitely be downloading this demo to check it out.

The look of the games don't bother me.

What does is how they're so incredibly addicting. :frown:
I don't even know what I'm doing half the time, I just like watching my empire grow and grow.
And by the time you know it, 4 hours have passed.

That and the late night cases of "Just one more turn" syndrome.

This version may fix that, for good or bad. According to the edge review (8/10) it takes 5 hours or so to complete. The idea is for repeated visits and trying out new approaches and strategy. It's also on a smaller scale - smaller map, less cities. However, '... while these limitations reduce the breadth of the experience, the depth remains with the added bonus of a new-found pace'. There would have been a time that i'd scoff at this - I sunk 100s of hours into civ2 - but this sounds quite appealing now (and feasible for someone with a job/family/life).

Judging by Warbie's screen shot it appears that unit promotions are in the game. Does anyone know if other civ 4 features like religion, corporations, leaders, etc are in there?

Obviously map sizes are smaller, fewer leaders and civs. Are the tech tree, unit types, special civ units the same as Civ 4, or limited? Not that it really matters I guess, just curious.

I must admit, consoles were the last place I would have expected the Civ series to turn up on.
Looks awesome though.

I just played the demo; it's basically a stripped down version of Civ4 with more explicit hand-holding. Still fun though, very easy to get into. The fights between the different units are loads of fun to watch btw. :)

I don't like how little people can play at once--my favorite part of the Civ series has been getting ten friends together and destroying each other's civilizations.

That said, I love Civ so. Yeah. Will play demo once I'm doing with work :D

Anyone tried the DS version? I want my Civ ON THE GO.

So you want an even more stripped down of an already stripped down game? Although I do question whether there's any reason to own this over the PC version. The mods alone would make it superior to console version, let alone having the all the features available.

I saw it the Marketplace, and my mind said yes, but my hand said no.

Never tried a Civ before, so I'm not sure...
