Just wondering if cl_interp is the answer to the "dodgy hitboxes" ?

Because the server side view of the game is perfecto but its the delay between us and server that causes it right? well interp controls that so... bingo?

I REALLY dunno how to use it so anyone wanna fill in?

it's no longer a command.

It still is a command, used to be sv_interp i think but now its cl_interp

yeah cl_interp is a valid command. I have cl_interp set at 0.009 but thats because my cl_cmdrate is at 101 and my cl_updaterate is at 101

So can someone help me? I have a 1mb connection, get about 50 ping, and have killed someone when they were one foot ahead of my crosshair.

I'll try now by entering all those commands into the thing in steam. Brb... Well, I won't post an update here, probably... Ok I'll shut up now.

I thought ex_interp was taken out or no longer worked in 1.6.

Chill out- it's no way near as bad as it was at the start of the beta. If anything it's better than it was at the end of the beta and hasn't caused me too many probs:)
I'm sure extra optimizations will arrive in time and people will also start finding the correct rates for their connections etc...

Give it some time

i use the default rates for everything except i did change cl_smooth to 1 or something like that but everything else is default and the game works fine... i think that people try tweaking their rates way too much because they want to be 1337 and it just screws it up more for them... i say leave it on the default

Ex_interp was not taken out, and it still worked, but it wasn't possible to "cheat" with ex_interp anymore. That's what Valve fixed. I have sent an e-mail to Cliffe hoping that he would shed some light on the possible changes in netcode in CS:S. If he returns my e-mail, I'll write up a detail explanation how things work and what you should do in order to get the most out of your connection making things as accurate as possible. I already did that about the netcode of cs 1.6 in another thread, but as I'm not yet 100% certain how things work in CS:S, I'll wait until I get an official confirmation from Valve.

cl_smooth 0, rate 25000, cl_updaterate 101, cl_cmdrate 101 and cl_interp 0.01 gives you a much more precise gamefeeling and more accurate hitboxes if you've got the bandwidth for it.

Quoted for truth..

Default works fine- I'm on 256k, in 1.6 I used to be able to use higher rates without getting choke or loss. In source I sometimes even have to lower my rates if the server is lagging (people using rates which are too high I suspect- Seriously the amount of people I've seen with good pings, who are mysteriously lagging across my screen while others moving fine; always the same people too....we used to call it rate hacking in vanilla CS)

That what I use, except my cl_interp is 0.009 and I seem to be doing alot better on servers but the drawback that now, most servers usually give me a ping of over 500. Only some servers give me decent ping

0.01 ~= 0.009, it's practically the same. :) The exact ratio for correct ex_interp value is 1/your updaterate. Btw, if you need to change your updaterate and don't want to count the correct value yourself, setting ex_interp to 0 would at least in 1.6 automatically adjust interp to the correct value when you changed your cl_updaterate.

About the servers... that seems a bit odd, I've never had anything like that happen to me. Are you sure the ping really is like that when you actually connect to one of those servers, or is it just something that shows up in the servers window?
