Client Side not reacting with Server Side?

Ragdolls are client side right?
Would this mean that ragdolls with clip through barrels and other server-side objects?
:(

If the cinderblock had been shot at the barrel, it'd react correctly, but since the barrel was the one doing the moving, it's going to clip because that cinderblock isn't there for everyone... and there's no good way of having your cinderblock move out of the way when that happens...

so would a ragdoll body fall on the cinder block the right way if you had the block?

You cant have client and server side physics interact with each other without screwing things up. If that cinderblock (client side) had blocked the barrel (server side) then the barrel would be in a different position then other people would see it in, this in turn starts to screw up the gameplay in small ways.

@ManHack, my guess is yes.
Client Side only reacts with client side
Server side only reacts with server side.
At least that is the best guess.

You cant have everything people.

Sounds to me like Valve is pulling another trick on us. HOWEVER, that is why this is beta. So we can test it to the limits! Send back the results and when it is released. We will have a better version.
However, counter-strike has been beta for years. Remember that too.

So.. What was the outcome?
who cares.
It would be a bit weird if some other player saw a barrel up in the air, wouldn't it :{

I suppose this is something to keep in mind when mapping for HL2 and mods. Try to keep server side physics objects away from client side physics objects. Prevents this from happening as often for a cleaner looking environment.

I would like to see them try and make almost everything server side and see how laggy it is...
