Ok, after all the talk of Clive Barker's Undying to be the scariest game out there...I decided to check it out. Since a game hadn't really scared me before, I was interested in finding one that did. I'm hardly into the game...and let me tell you...

...This game scares the shit outta me already. I played it last night with my blinds closed and the door open, lights off. I started hearing noises that weren't actually happening in my apartment...I turned the game off after being attacked by
those crazy demon things for the 4th time or so and seeing that crazy ghost and those freaky noises that keep happening throughout that house
I had enough of Undying for the night.

I have to say the game is already living up to my expectations...and I've hardly started the game.

Who here has played the game? How long is the game?

Just curious...
Does it all take place in and around the house on the island that you begin on?

i have the game. it's freaking scary. i put it down for some time. it got kinda difficult.

yeah, i played it when it first came out
scary shiz :|

I played the demo. I absolutely loved it.
And AmishSlayer, the game takes place on different worlds beginning with the covenant house.

Yo Amish, Undying is one of the coolest games I've ever played, so stick with it till the end. It's mad long too.

Cooll. I was hoping it was long and took place in other locations. I look forward to taking it on again tonight or tomorrow night. (I've decided to play it at night for the best experience :) )

I had totally forgotten about Undying until right now. That game was fantastic, and utterly terrifying at parts. Wait until you meet some of the enemies that come into play later on in the game..and some of the places you'll visit....really scary stuff :)

I played through the game and got some good scares but I didn't really think that the game had much else besides scares. The plot and gameplay, I thought, was pretty mediocre.

i dont like scary games, especially hard ones. resident evil made me shit myself it was so scary!!

(not literally. i have never actually shat myself. ever).

How can you find RE scarey?

well i did play it when i was 8/9 or something. tbh, i find anything where enemies get up again scary. "SHIT HES GETTING BACK UP!! DIE!! DIIIIIEEE!!!" etc. i played one of them recently, i think it was an fps, and it was a crap game and want scary at all. i may buy the GC remade version, but im not sure whether id play it a lot...

I always thought that someone should make a mod that continues the story of Undying with the Source engine. That would be sweet.

Undying was on the original Unreal engine(Not Unreal Tournament 2003/2004).
So if EA does decide to make a sequel to Undying, it should be on the Unreal Engine 3.0. They've already licensed the Unreal engine.

Hmm, I've never played this one. How does it compare to Silent Hill or System Shock 2 in terms of being scared shitless?

heh I think doom 3 is going to be up there with the scariest... I normally dont like scary games, but I hope Co-op gets modded into the PC version soon after release. I dont think I can go through it alone without scaring myself to death.

Undying is only similar to Silent Hill (any of the games) and System Shock 2 in that it uses the atmosphere to scare you rather than the old RE zombie-through-the-window shock. However that's really where the similarities end. It's very Gothic (in the old Gothic way, not the goth sub-culture of today) and very much grounded in reality (well, for the most part). What I mean is, it doesn't have that sci-fi horror that SS2 had, and it doesn't have that surreal terror that Silent Hill games have. In my opinion Silent Hill cannot be beat as far as atmosphere goes, but it lacks a bit when it comes down to intense combat scenarios (not exactly a bad thing). What Undying lacks in atmosphere (and really, it lacks VERY little) it makes up for with some really, really scary encounters with some excellent enemies. Undying really stands on it's own as a very unique game. It has an old feel to it. The story is very dark, very Gothic, and the designers did such a wonderful job of creating a tension that slowly builds to a boiling point and then explodes in some encounter or scene that will leave you breathless. It's just one hell of a game, too bad not many people have played it.

I dont know how many times I have advocated Clive Barker's Undying, but it can never be enough... it was one of my fave sp games ever.. and if it had some form of MP I bet it would have gone through the roof.

Im so pissed that it didnt sell well.. I loved every second of it.
because it didnt do so well retail, there wont be a sequel (even though it was initially planned) :/

Actually, not to "pimp" my former team members mod, but there is a multiplayer mod for Undying currently in the works, entitled "Undying Curse". Progress isn't as fast as preferred because they lack 3d modellers and texture artists. So, if you have any of these talents, and think Undying is a cool game, why not head over to www.sanffo.co.uk, and check out the "General Discussion" forums section for the Undying Curse?. Well, I'm sure the team would appreciate any technical or artistic talent.

Holy mother of God I would give a kidney for an Undying sequel.
