I was just thinking because I am modelling a quiet active jumping character and the animation could be pritty hard to do. But is it possible to just make actual clothes for your character then give the clothes physics? as in real time physics. So litrally u model a t-shirt/jumper and stick it on your model. Kinda like the news paper in hl2. It would not need any animation and would be able to be effected by wind and react a lot better than any other animation. But how powerful is the engines physics? would this put a big load of your cpu for all the calculations? Is it even possible?

where's the newspaper, which vid?, haven't seen it/noticed it and I wouldn't mind seeing a newspaper in a game that doesn't behave like a slab of rock like in so many other games :)

Ive talked to gabe about this and he said it would be possible... but you will have to tone down some other things.

I will use it in my mod, Malin.

I'll certainly be using it, haven't done clothes without dynamics in years now (pre-rendered stuff) I'd not be able to get used to stiff clothes. Besides, lots of robes need to be done and they'd just look soooo cool in the wind, or the flags of the.... oops can't be giving anything away now can I ;);)

...trenchcoat?

*seems like kinda a waste to just make a one word response. I did see a post int eh Valve info sticky regarding clothes as majestic pointed out. Should be awesome to see some realisitc clothing. The cape from "Spawn" anyone.

The problem with it is that its always very dogdy with the collision, and can freak out. Even Havoc (considering MP2) has these problems from time to time. A jacket would always mean movement, meaning much greater chance of something going wrong. Might be worth doing it anyway :)

If you made a mod where there's never more than say a couple of bad guys in view at once, you could probably get away with upping the poly count on them and their clothes to try limit the amount of mistakes with the collisions and improve the quality. Might end up a bit boring though if you know there's only ever gonna be a couple of bad guys to fight each time, but the clothes will look cool heh

I plan on trying it with hair, long flowing hair, see how things work with that in realtime :)

well if u think about it. If you could make the clothes take damage so when shot a little whole in the clothes apears. This would be very good becasuse then clothesd can litrally fall of. Obviasly it would only work on a woman LOL

lol! oh dear, i shudder to think of the mods that would get made if you could do that :D

I don't get it, who said that would start with clothes?

Well, I've always liked skinless chicken, so why not?

And we end up with "bouncing-effects" like most 3D-beat-em-ups (not that i would disapprove of it :cheese: )

They've got that in vampire mascarade (bouncing b00bs) so maybe Valve will hax0r it for Alyx ;)

What, we need a physics engine for just that? NWN must be far ahead of its time then, since its got bouncing hair, bouncing clothes AND bouncing boobs ;) (sidenote: need mod to enable the last part)
