"Club" on TF2 stats page

Take a look at this:

Do you see a strange new weapon, a "club" in the weapon categories? What is it? 3rd highest crit chance, around 65 damage on average, but what is it?

I brooded over this for a night or two, before doing a simple test of elimination.

The only class whose melee weapons isn't on the lists is the sniper's machete!

Is this the "club"?


Why would Valve change the name?

Valve works with codenames when they program weapons.

That's why the HL2 mp7 and pulse rifle are named weapon_smg1 and weapon_ar2

Actually, that's because originally there were multiple SMGs, and originally the "big" automatic rifle was the H&K XM29 OICW AR2, before it was cut and replaced with the Pulse Rifle. Valve just never saw a reason to change the entity names.

I'm pretty sure it used to be a club, a guy on steampowered found a bunch of unused models in the gcf and one was titled "club". It looked kind of like a police baton. There were also a bunch of grenade models that they were probably using before they cut grenades.
