CoD 4 rumours

Oooh, Soldier of Fortune gore system :D

As much as i love the WW2 setting, playing through the 3rd one now theres only so much they can cover, i'd love to see a CoD set in modern times, such as Iraq or even the Gulf, would be a nice refreshing start :)

Heh, awesome. Already heard the modern day bit, but the gore thing is new. Sounds neat in theory, but... Call of Duty's always been pretty clean for a war game, having a little trouble imagining it :P

Still, Call of Duty in a modern-day setting works remarkably well in my head. This can only mean good things for the multiplayer... unless it's a Battlefield 2 clone (but done right that could be good too ^^).

I'd be extremely disappointed if it was a bf2 clone, as long as they keep their current style, maybe throw in a few extra game modes it'd be great :)

I'd rather have a CoD: Vietnam, but as it probubly wont be on PC, meh.

COD and... gore? What is this sourcery? Sounds good though, I await for more info.

it wont resemble bf2 at all i bet....more focused on first person

This could be the game that gets me back into Call of Duty!!

Same here. I never bothered to buy CoD2 because I didn't want to fight World War II for the gazillionth time. A good shooter with CoD spectacle in a modern setting sounds great.

well I dont see how it could bring it into modern times without bringing in political issues into the mix ...i mean who the hell wants to play CoD:Greneda or CoD: Faukland Islands? CoD is all about realism and they couldnt possibly throw it into a modern context without bending reality somewhat ..and god I hope they dont set it in modern day iraq ..half the game would be spent killing civilians the other half would be searching for non-existant WMD :naughty:

CoD in the present day?

YESH PLEASE!

God damn they best get this franchise back into the PC marketplace!

You forgot about the other time spent dieing from invisible road bombs, your helicopter crashing for no apparant reason... but hey every so often you get to see bulidings blow up with a sweet physics system.

To me the CoD series is all about the way Hollywood portrays WWII. It is not realistic at all. The first Stalingrad level in CoD1 was copy-pasted from Enemy at the Gates. CoD to me is a pure arcade shooter with lots of entertaining scripted events. If CoD 4 is reminiscent of Blackhawk Down (the movie I mean, not the game) then count me in.

ok let me clarify my statement .."realistic" in the sense of games ..I mean surely the war wasnt won by a single guy followed by a bunch of mindless soldiers who would often get stuck in doorways, run into the middle of a firefight or throw themselves on their own grenades ...what I meant by realism is the motivations behind the war ..ww2 is easy to justify morally ...the iraq war, which was based on lies ...not so easy

depending on the conflict ..the first Iraq war saw a total of 148 coalition casualties ...with well over 200,000 soldiers deployed your chances of dying are pretty slim ..in fact your chances of seeing any sort of action during that war was slim to none unless you were a pilot ..although there's no real danger to pilots as most targets were civilian infrastructure like water treatment plants etc

the current war wouldnt be not much fun either as a high number of casualties are caused by bombing

lol "iraqi soldiers" ... you should probably pay attention to the news more often

This Iraq war, the first one would be a Fully-Dynamic sand physics sandbox.

CptStern, I was figuring you were gonna go to the extreme by quoting him and changing soliders to civilians. you know something more like: I'm sorry but I just had to do this...
Oh man. I can't wait to kill about 100 Iraqi civilians while waiting for a timer to count down and my newly-arrived backup to wipe out the suddenly-multiplied enemies that appear.

Anyway as CptStern said, CoD makes it feel like theres more than you. I mean starting from the first level you see tons of planes and everything coming down. CoD was a game that made you feel like you were a part of an important side to the war, rather than THE side of the war.

I would much rather see a game based in Vietnam or Korea, or even the Pacific theater of WW2. This kind of warfare has never been done brilliantly in a game before. I would love to see a game that's as good as the first Call of Duty was in its' time released for one of the jungle wars, preferably Korea. Pacific Assault was alright but it was more along the lines of jungle themed corridors than actual jungle warfare.

As far as modern times, Iraq would be relevant and interesting, but there just isn't that much going on there. There are no massive scale battles whatsoever. The actual invasion was a cakewalk where there were barely any US casualties and the aftermath is just a bunch of tiny skirmishes. Would be a big step down from the WW2 era.

If the whole gore thing is true, then that's great news. I just can't take CoD/MoH seriously. It feels so watered down and sanitary ... you just can't have a T rated war game. It kills immersion and authenticity (not to mention making war look so clean does nothing but glorify it).

I hope to see dx10 graphics, like crysis, although I hope that's just a patch and the game still works well with dx9 graphics and on XP, bah wth I'm thinking too much as if it comes out tommorow.

I'd be supportive of a game actually set in the Korean war for once, or maybe even a good game based on the 'Black Hawk Down' situation, as the game for the film was terrible.

Additionally It's interesting to see speculation on a new CoD game turn to CptStern talking about his views on the Iraq war.
